95 Sabb 900S - I turn the car off and start again, sometimes 2 or 3 times and then it works fine. I changed the Transmission fluid - no change. The parts guy says that there is no filter in this automatic transmission.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

I had a Saab mechanic (on his own now in NY) check out the "Check Gear Box" lite problem, which also put the car into winter mode (limp home mode). It went away after the car was warm, but he tested it with the Tech 2 tool which confirmed that a "auto safety switch (or something like that) needed to be replaced. The used Saab dealer (Delafield Motors in Schenectady, NY) that I bought the car from that same week paid the $300+ for the work and for the part, whcih I bet was over $100. It's hard to get to, under the battery and under some steel framing on the right hand side. Works fine now.

I had a similar problem on my 900s Cab. It is apparently the range switch for the gearbox which controls the gear changes, when it is stuffed it puts the car in limp mode. It also caused my car to shudder a bit while stationary and in gear ( especially with the aircon on) feeling like it wanted to change gears. The switch can be cleaned and regreased as a possible fix but you might as well replace the switch. Did this with mine and the car runs great now.
