Default How to protect soft top

My Convertible has still got the original soft top which due to it being garaged from new is pretty much immaculate. Unfortunately I'm going to have to keep it outside now. To add insult to injury, my delegated parking space is under some trees which from past experience drop all sorts of cr*p onto cars. As I don't use the car every day I'm considering getting one of those covers that go over just the ****pit which would also serve to discourage the local cat fraternity from using it as a nice comfy bed. A full car cover would be too OTT.
What does anyone else do/recommend?
Also, for future ref, does anyone have any good tips for cleaning the fabric of soft tops that may have ingrained residue/deposit?

Thanks again guys

renovo products from your local car shop is what has been recommended on here before, and i think it's ok.
re the cover, we have a nylon one but it does tend to blow with the wind a bit and the elastic securing tabs rub on the side of the paintwork and there are light abrasions. they can be polished out as it's not severe, but that is the only downside i found, but better to have a cover with C**p on it though than your roof as the chemicals in it damage normal paintwork so vert roofs will be no exception.

I really rate the Autoglym kit, having tried Renovo kit and Chemical Guys Fabric Guard. The finish beads up like polished paint

Btw, citronella or any citrus-based scent irritates moggies. My vert's under a porch but I've a cloth bag of citronella that I place on the roof at the end of the day to dissuade the resident cats from turning my roof into their comfy bed.

As an offensive measure, I was thinking of placing anchovies on the roof of my neighbour's BMW convertible but the Wife thought it wasn't a very neighbourly thing to do....
