I don't know what you mean by downsizing, but I think there gonna stay with Epsilon II for a while yet. It just got here!

So Epsilon II isn't going to last two years....
Ahhh, GM I guess we just see what comes. But my next planned and probably final SAAB purchase will be a CPO 08/9 CV in 10 or 11. Depending on the Vector's health. |

The new 9-3 will be a glorified Cobalt. That's downsizing.
And in this day and age, it just might be a brilliant strategy. Do YOU want a bigger car? The only problem I have with the Cobalt is the twist beam rear axle. Other than that, it is a competant platform. Throw a 2.0T in it, a 6 speed auto, a Saabized interior and exterior, and I think you have a winner. |

Is the Delta 2 platform in any current production car?
If it has good bones (i.e.: is light weight, stiff, strong and versatile) then shrinking the 9-3 may not be a bad thing. If the vehicle can be made more sporty, efficient and clean without compromising refinement, interior space/comfort and safety that could be excellent. I would hate to see Saab backtrack on the noise-vibration-harshness gains realized in the '08 (and '07?) MY's. |
