'98 9-5 with about 114K Miles on the clock, regularly serviced.
I had a problem with my A/C working fine for about 5-10 minutes, blowing icy cold, and making all the right clicks behind the dash. It would go to blowing ambient, and stop making all the clicks and whirrs. Diagnostic said all was OK. A/C man checked for gas and pressure, and all was fine. He suggested that the magnetic clutch had let go, and this was also suggested by some fine members of this forum too. I had my local indy change out the compressor with a second hand one I sourced, and had it gassed up. All worked fine for about 5-10 minutes. Same symptoms - surely not the same fault, or am I too unlucky that way? Could it be anything else? control circuitry, relays???? |

Going through the same thing on my 99 lpt it does give me a code 22 though, but the ac works great for the first 10 - 15 minutes then cold air is replaced with warm......I will post if I figure this thing out....will be taking it to an indy next week for the code.....I am pulling my sid out all together due to apost from someone else about replacing his sid and several electrical grimlins disappeared including a code 22 but we will see if that helps lol....if it does i will be shocked as I didn't not think the sid would cause those sorts of issues.....

Check the motor that controls the blend door on the driver side if the gear is flush agaist the housing and the rod sticks out slightly from the other side that may be a culpret as it gave me all kinds of a/c and heating issues. the only time i could get heat was when i did a diagnostic other times i couldnt change the tempurature anywhere as the gear was just slipping on the peice it controled. just a place to look, cant hurt.

this problem sounds almost identical to one I experienced with my Taurus SHO - I realize its not the same vehicle, but there should be some similarities in the AC system. The issue, in my case, was traced to a condenser issue...
