Smile Thank you most sincerely

Thank you for your kind wishes.
And happy birthday to you KurBads

Did you see the photo I eventually posted of my SAAB ... in a little French village called Saint-Sozy where I am buying my retirement home. Just 300 meters from the Dordogne ... fishing and bed-room for SCs who are passing by Local produce ... foie gras and Cahors wine .. for Ken ..

Nobody likes getting older but you can't complain retiring in a place like that! Any particular reasons you picked that area?

Hey hope you had a great B-Day, David

Wow, what a place to retire ..... or just to be.

What's weird is the front looks like two separate houses, and the back of the house doesn't look like it's even the same structure as the front.

We picked the village of Saint-Sozy because my French wife knew it 40 years ago when she used to go there on camping vacations with friends. They made friends of their own age with the "locals" and now we have 3 couples who have retired there from Paris and have kept up relations with the "locals". It's a village of 600 and life is a complete change frpm the rush and stress of Paris. We will be 350 miles south of Paris and all but the last 10 miles is autoroute. The climate is better and the air is pure. Farming is on a small scale with maize, tobacco and nut trees. But most important are the geese for foie-gras and confits de canard. In the village there is an excellent butcher and a small grocery shop which sells newpapers and bread which is delivered daily from Martel a small town 8 miles away. There is a doctor and just about all the basics we need. Everything else can be found at Souillac a beautiful country town 9 miles west. They are building a new airport 20 miles north near Brive which will have plenty of cheap flights to London and Paris. Cahors, famous for its red wine is 25 miles south.

The first picture is not of the house we are negotiating but the village square. The second photo shows the house and on the left is the "pool-house" which has a shower, toilet and a BAR. Here is a pic of the front.

Oh I forgot to mention, there are two hotel/restaurants both inexpensive, one is "gastronomique" the other has an excellent bar where some English hang out. Not too many expats and they are appreciated by the locals to such an extent the bar even has draft Strongbow cider!

p.s. Thanks Blix and Boheme ... it's great to have friends all over he world and fun to see how many of you have French. SAABists are really a breed apart

David I've somehow always envisioned you to be like Peter Mayle in his book "A Year in Provence" which I have a copy of.

I first thought that's a small garage with a very tight turn so close to the pool. Better watch out when you return from the bar at night..

Is that Kermit visiting in his Vel Satis?

Hey David - my chilluns (12 and 15) are at the Hôtel de Notre Dame on the Rive Gauche right NOW. Last time there we stayed in an apartment on Quai de Bourbon (it was a second floor walk-up) in the building that was used in the film about Camille Claudel. It was used as the place she stayed at and was dragged from by the loony police after Rodin had jilted her.
I think the rugbrats are headed to the Chateau de Versailles tomorrow (or should I say today) or Monday. They both have been studying French. The oldest (KateZilla) has very good pronunciation and has mastered, for the most part, the nasals and le liaison.
Love your place. May your retirement be soothing, joyful, productive, peaceful and very long.

Hello there David. Happy Birthday and congratulations on the 'new' retreat. Although that will make it more difficult for me to come see U next year . May I wish U all the best on this auspicious day. K

Happy brithday David, and anniversary Kurbads.

And congratulations to Dave for having seized the opportunity to retire in such a wonderful place. Enjoy it!.

I was concerned about that
We have many here with great love of food, but all seem to fit in to the cockpit seat of a SAAB. So ... there shouldn't be a tidal wave problem in the pool. However I will have to ensure the bar is full but if you have any exotic beer tastes that will be your problem.. I have Heinekin and Amstel on draft
