Default Skydiving

Going skydiving today...guess I should have started the thread a little earlier if I was looking for tips. Couldn't sleep much last night...scared and excited at the same time.

Tandem or with an instructor at both side during free fall? Enjoy! I've done it twice and the first time I had sensory overload - don't remember much of the free fall.

Have fun! I flew skydivers for two years back in my college days. It was a blast, certainly an experience you will never forget. If youre doing a tandem skydive, dont forget to arch your back as you exit the plane, it will provide stability until the instructor can get the drogue chute out. Have fun and be safe!

I did a tandem jump in Taupo, New Zealand from 15,000 feet. It just seems impossibly high. I could see separate towns from up there, linked by tiny slivers of road, miles of snow-covered mountain ranges in the distance and an enormous lake that I was worried about landing in the middle of.

When we first went out of the plane I took a huge gulp of air and basically forgot to breathe for 15 seconds due to the overload. Your brain is telling you this can't be happening. Then I snapped out of it and started looking around at the view. From 15,000 feet you get 60 seconds of freefall, followed by a couple of minutes drifting around after the chute opens. The whole thing was excellent, and as soon as I landed I wanted to go up again.

Best advice I got over the headphones was "don't forget to look around!" Had she not reminded me, I would have missed 3/4's of the experience.

I have been contemplating doing it for about 2 years now
I have heard that your eyes hurt because of change in air pressure or something...

What is it with all you people wanting to jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane?

That was <stifles laughter> silly...

I can't find a link to a news report, but I seem to remember a story a few years back of a parachutist - very experienced, world-class competitor - who misjudged a landing slightly.

She landed on a helicopter that was just taking off...

Is it sick to say I want to see the video?
