Default Hood Medallion removal and replace

Just purchased a new one.

Anyone have any advice on how to remove and replace without mucking the hood up?

Took a quick look and saw there was like a dime size hole under the hood and a "tooth-grip-like washer" holding the one pointed stub from the medallion. Not sure how I can get that off???

Also, any advice on keeping the medallion whole?

Well, mine was just stuck on with two-sided foam tape. It was easy enough to pry off with a thin screwdriver after putting a few layers of tape on the hood to prevent scratches and dents.

The way to take it off and replace the original is to take blowdryer to it to loosen the adhesive, and then from inside the hood gently hammer it off through the hole with a screwdriver.

The quick, ugly and easy method if you are replacing a worn out emblem is to take a sharp screwdriver or other sharp metal object and hammer it through the center of the top of the emblem and once it is embedded firmly in the emblem, pry it off.

I found prying it from the side, even with tape, to be tough, especially if you don't take a blowdryer to it as it is in an indentation and I was still concerned about scrathing the paint around the emblem.

Use hairdryer to soften the glue and then i've heard to use dental floss to cut thru the glue. Never tried it, but it was mentioned in this forum.

Ive never replaced mine, but as far as keeping it whole, that film stuff they stick on the front of cars these days to protect against stone chips does a good job.

Stateofnines sells precut round slices that stick to the top of the emblem, but they aren't cheap.

Well I purchased the protector and if you ask me, don't bother, it not worth it. After installing it was cloudy and the edges were separating. I was able to take it off and I'm asking for my money back.

Removing the medallion was just as easy as everyone said. Heated up with a blow dryer, used some dental floss and then placed a screw driver in from underneath to pop it off. There was residue from the double stick which needed some extra elbow grease to take off, but other than that it was fine.

Make sure to use iso alcohol to clean off the area to then place the new one on.

do the blowdryer trick. Better yet let the car sit in the sun for a few hours and do it, not much of a problem to do. I shaved the "SAAB" and "95" off the rear this way too, works great.

Just don't let the blowdryer sit in one area too long or you could scorch the paint depending upon how hot a day it is. Just keep it moving in a small circle around the badge for a couple minutes.
