Question Slowly running out of numbers

9-1 concept
9-2x
9-3
9-4 concept
9-5
9-7x

They still have 9-6, 9-8, and 9-9

Just a thought: After all numbers are used, whats next?

back to 93, 96, 99, 900, 9000?

Well, the term 9-6x was used for the crossover that never was... It was supposed to be based on the Subaru B9 Tribeca.

I see no reason why numbers used in the past (9-2, 9-7) can't be used again in the future. But as of now, the following numbers are in use:

9-3
9-4X
9-5
9-7X

I am told the 9-X Concept has been given the greenlight for production, but what we don't know is what name it will take up. 9-1 makes sense in that it's been reported it is intended to be the MINI, 1-series, A3 and C30 competition. All other models would build up from that.

Heck, if SAAB will ever have 5 or more distinct model lines for sale at any given moment we'll be laughing. Who cares about running out of the 1 through 9 suffixes, let's fill up half that range first !

Numbers are cold and emotionless. SPG causes smiles.

I'm sure that before they let it get out of hand they would just switch to a new naming convention, like they did with the introduction of the 9-5 and renaming the 900-->9-3 (it was the same damn car, more or less).

i'd like it if the 900 and 9000 names came back, something cool about saying you own a saab Nine-Hundred or Nine-Thousand that nine-three or nine-five doesnt really get.

We're already on the third to use the digits 9 and 3, and second to use 9 and 5. Not to mention two 900s, of course.

Ah, but for the old ones you say "Ninety-three" and "Ninety-five"

They're Swedish ...... they have to make good use of resources

C900 -> NG900 -> OG9-3 -> NG9-3 -> ??
OG9000 -> NG9000 (CS-body) -> 9-5 -> ??

If the 9-2 and 9-7 lines are re-used we could call them:

SB9-2X (SB=Subaru) -> NG9-2X
TB9-7X (TB=TrailBlazer) -> NG9-7X

We could raid Porsche's closet. They don't use these anymore:
  • 912
  • 914
  • 924
  • 928
  • 944
  • 959
  • 968

Is that better then the Ford 500? Better then the Chrsyler 300?
I hate to blaspeheme like this, but I am tired of numbers. No imagination at all. Let's go back to names.
Viggen and Sonnett sound way better then anything Saab ever used before, or after.

They could just keep using the same numbers for ever. Just like Honda has been using the names Civic and Accord since the 70's. Honestly, I don't even see why there was a name change between the 99 and the 900. They're so similar, while the GM900 became the 9-3 when they're even more similar that then 99 and 900, and then the 9-3SS isn't anything like the old 9-3.

I suppose they could eventually go to 3 digits like BMW does.

Well, if they return to the original numbers, well.. the triple digit numbers, they could go like 901, 902, 903 and 903x, 905 and 905x. Those sound nice to a certain extent.

As for naming them, rather than numbering, there is only so much you can give them in terms of names before it starts to get somewhat stupid. You have an infinite number of choices with numbers.

Here is a question, if Saab decided to rename all their current world sale cars, what do you think would be the best options? They could keep the trim levels, like Linear, Arc and Aero, with the model names depicting performance.

9-1 could be renamed the Sprite(although Triumph used that before).
9-3 could be renamed the Gripen.
9-5 could be renamed the Valkyrie.
A dedicated performance Saab could be called the Viggen.
A dedicated small 2 seat sporting convertible could be called the Sonnet.

Other ideas?

Hear that ringing sound? That's Peugeot's lawyers after your backside...

The 911 was originally going to be the 901 - but Pug said "Umm, no, we've trademarked all x0x digits." Whilst they've not had a 9-series for the road (yet?), the 905 and 908, for example, are LeMans cars whilst the 907 was a concept.

Austin-Healey, not Triumph.

I prefer 7-Up.

Talking of which, why did Ford Europe stop naming theor cars after Jazz Mags? I think the Ford Razzle would have been a winner.
