Where do people live?

Just interested in where people live ie. city (inner city, central business district etc.), rural, semi rural, suburbs and I guess village as many of our UK and European members live in "villages". I suppose most live in the burbs. I've lived in all of the above places from time to time. Just wondering where people live, why? And where they would prefer to live, given the choice.

Lynn Valley is a neighbourhood of North Vancouver, British Columbia. Located at the northern edge of Greater Vancouver, it is nestled between the forested slopes of Mount Fromme and Mount Seymour. The area is well-known for its natural parks, including Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, the Seymour Demonstration Forest and Lynn Canyon Park, whose main attraction is the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. I live in a "suburban Neighborhood" so to speak; but we are actually more than 30 miles from the nearest small city so I call it rural. I am right on the water; and other than the neighborhood I am in; the closest five properties are all farms

I live in a suburb (Roxbury) of the city of Keene, NH. It's a small city, really small. It's nothing special, but it's mine. Both of my parents live in rural areas of dense forrests and river valleys, so it's real nice to hang out there and not listen to neighbors, traffic, barking dogs, etc....

If I could live anywhere I'd choose to live near a coast. Maine was nice, so was North Carolina, and California was a neat change of pace. I wish I could combine the lifestyle of Maine with the weather of the NC coast, that would be perfect.

Just thinking back for a second, I used to live in the Roxbury section of Boston earlier in the decade (Northeastern University). Don't miss that at all.

Umm, none of the above.

A smallish town, population just over 9.000.

Too big to be a village, not a suburb of anywhere, not rural (although surrounded by rural on three sides) and _definitely_ not a city!

I grew up in a suburb of Sheffield until I was about 10, then we moved out to a village (population about 600) in Derbyshire. I moved to outer (South-East) London to Uni, then wandered around the outskirts of London - living in large town, small town, village - before we bought the house here, the same town Ellie grew up in, 11yrs ago.

Small town - I live in the village where I can walk to just about everything. Next year I will be walking to work, too. I look out my back window across a small river at a machine shop and lumber store. Walk another 150 yards past two auto parts stores. And I can walk to a garage to have my exhaust pipes bent!

Town population - about 5,000. Village population - less, but I'm not sure how much less.
