As claimed by Leftlane News:
http://www.leftlanenews.com/saab-9-5-sedan-future.html ![]() Some time next year, Swedish automaker Saab will begin production of a redesigned 9-5 Sedan. For the 2010 model year, the all-new 9-5 will take on an Aero-X-inspired look, while building on the existing model's somewhat angular roofline. Saab general manager Steve Shannon recently told dealers the company would reveal the new 9-5 later this year at a major auto show, according to trade publication Automotive News. Saab enthusiast website Trollhattan Saab has speculated the most likely venue is the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October. Also according to the website, the new model will have larger engines, increased overall dimensions, and will be a "true flagship" for the automaker. Some reports indicate the range-topping model will have up to 350 horsepower. The new 9-5 will ride on a modified version of GM’s Epsilon II platform, which also underpins the new Saturn Aura. Expect it to have firmer suspension, improved steering, and better electronics.

Thanks, but I'll wait for the official unveiling to make any judgment. I think that rendering is just some artist's interpretation. That or a very old, rejected design.
Bring on the Paris Auto show (if this is where it really gets revealed)!

In a complete reversal, the 9-3 now has a clamshell hood and the 9-5 has lost it? Hmmm....

Not biting this hook. It's a just fine rendering, but I have doubts as to whether or not this article is the real thing.

A pillar forward is quite attractive and clean, aft of b/c pillar is boring family sedan ala Chevy, Saturn, Buick, etc

It loos like someone grafted a mix of the Aero-X front end and the Mauer 9-5 facelift on an airbrushed opel insignia's body with boy-racer air ports thrown in for S's & G's. I would buy it as a concept sketch for the stillborn ~2003/2004 replacement 9-5 because the proportions remind me of that car's alfa 159 platform-mate, but I will bet my car that the upcoming 9-5 will look nothing like that. |

Hi
Well I hope they can do better than that. And I will be mighty disappointed if there is no estate( station wagon) as I have been waiting for it for a long time. I own a pre face lift 9-5 Aero and I love it. I had a post 9-5 as a hire car a couple of times and all i can say is that I HATE IT. It excudes cheapness. All the digital displays were out and what was in came from a bottom of the range Corsa. Even the clever spray bar built into the tail gate windscreen wiper was gone, In it place was little spout that urinted on one corner of the back window leaving the rest of it bone dry and uncleanable. I could go on and on but all i can say is it is little wonder they are struggling to sell the car. So a plea to GM. Leave Saab Designers alone to give us a kick *** car and do not force them to use sub standard parts from the GM bin. M Last edited by Madmickey; 20-04-08 at 10:14 AM. |

The next 9-5 has been said to look like a cross between a quattroporte and an XF.. this doesnt exactly meet that description... Its not the revolutionary 9-5 that few insiders have been praising. I know that this cant be it. Its wayyyy too boring.

If the upcoming Saab 9-5 is based on the Epilison II AND the Saturn Aura is as well, the Saab and even GM may as well pack it in...
The Saturn line is "low-priced", economical, rather small or was at one time.. A flagship MUST never be based on a small-economy line, however good a Saturn may be... And if it is, the public should never know.. ..The '59 Chevrolet and the '59 Cadillac shared the same shell, to the best of my knowledge, and GM was able to get away with it.....I think. Back then, most all American cars were huge(oversized)..

I certainly hope though that the production car has a more pronounced swoop to the beltline than the second sketch has, not to mention the obligatory hockeystick. But I've never seen the Aero-X from that angle before, all I can say is "WOW!". I think that picture gave me even more respect for the Aero X |
