There's this site, but it won't be cheap, esp. since it's in Sweden.

http://www.sonettclub.se/eng_index.html

Look for item #7403694.

Too bad you didn't ask last year. I know someone not too far from me who had two, but he already sold them.

Default Rear window replacements

As you have already discovered, Sonett rear windows are problematical for a number of reasons. First, used ones are very rare. Second, natural aging of the glass makes them exceeding brittle. They are relatively easy to remove, but nearly impossible to install due to bending that is required to fit into the window seal. The chance of cracking the rear window on install is close to 99%, even for one without obvious cracks or pits (I say this from personal experience).

The best alternative, as far as I know, is a new replacement made out of Lexan. Lexan is a highly durable polycarbonate resin thermoplastic designed to replace glass where the need for strength and/or flexibility justifies its higher cost. Lexan is General Electric's brand name for polycarbonate sheet in thicknesses from 0.75 mm (0.03 in) to 12 mm (0.48 in).

You can get a custom made Sonett V4 rear glass made for you out of Lexan by contacting:

Bud Clark
J & B Imports, 2296-A N. Batavia Street
Orange, CA 92865
714-282-7378, fax 714-282-0457

The cost is high (around $900-1000 with shipping), but there is probably not a cheaper alternative. Buying a used window would be worth it if you only pay upon successful install (and you'll need a stack of them to try).

The Sonett Club of Sweden is an excellent source of spare parts, but their V4 window replacement is expensive for U.S. buyers. They charge 6210 SEK (about $950 U.S.) before shipping. The Bud Clark option (see prior post) will be about $950 with shipping.

As 69Blue mentioned, the Lexan is probably your best bet, especially with the weaker dollar. I do know another local vintage Saaber with a rear window, but afaik, he isn't selling unless he also sells the chassis it belongs to, whether seperately or together. It wouldn't be cheap either, as he knows how rare they are. Your Latham location is in NY, I assume? I've contacted most of the Sonett owners in the area, hoping we can all get together at some point either to go to an event together or just a cruise.

I should mention that if you want a concours car, points would probably be taken off for a Lexan window.

Hey 69Blue, were you at Swedish Car Day last year? I don't recall a Blue 69 V4, unless you brought something else.

Default Swedish Car Day

Yes, I was at Swedish Car Day but my 69 Sonett (now blue again after being red for 15 years) was in the paint shop. You can see a photo of it on my profile.
