blow off valve

I'm seriously considering a BOV , any comments or suggestions. I'm getting ready for my ECU upgrade and was told that this was a good place to start because of the boost increase.

Not Suitable for Trionic 7 or 8 engines:

All 9-5 models

9-3 Viggen and all models 01' onwards

9-3 Sports Saloon/Sedan

Think that means not recommended for fitment!
Atmospheric valves are not good for T7/8 cars.

I heard that from auto shop long time ago too.
They said If I get a BOV then, I could have problem with RPM.
It was something like 93ss release hot air from stock BOV and then, that hot air goes back into the intake air filter.
something like recirculating. I heard Audi's are same too.

I emailed that website and asked about one of the diverter valves and this is how they responded:

Hello Mark,

You can fit them, but due to the charged air being dumped to atmosphere, the air has already been metered and adjusted for by trionic at that point, so will invoke a temporary rich running, which will in a short amount of time throw a check engine light, so not recommended.

However the Forge FMDVS006 or Forge FMDVS007P will work perfectly with your car.

Not sure how or why that would be. The Vector doesnt have a BOV, it has an air diverter that diverts the air back down into the intake, not into the atmosphere like a BOV. The BOVs that dump the air into the atmosphere are the ones that make the loud air sound.

When I first looked at that and emailed them, it only said not suitable for Trionic 7. It did not say 8 or list those other models until after I talked with them.

No, actually the one you ordered is compatible. The one I had asked about and wrote to asking about was not, and someone responded to that, and then I was responding to him. That makes no sense, but just go with it.


Again, the one diverter you ordered WILL work. How was it 135, I thought the conversion was 1 to 1.6, and it's about 94 pounds, making it around 150.

If you are in the USA or anywhere outside the EEC for that matter, then you don't have to pay U.K. tax @ 17.5% which is included in the price you see. So the price you pay is less 17.5% = £80.50 approximately USD $128.80.

if you have a turbo then you have to, have a dump or blow off valve. are cars have a dump valve.

the difference is a dump valve recirculates the air where as a blow off valve releases the air into the atmosphere.

because of our engine managment system, (ECU) if you release put a bov on our cars instead of a dump valve it will put in to much fuel for the amount of air, i.e. you will run rich.


now, found out what happens when you run rich


i.e. running rich is not good you will need be needing new exahust system's all the time, i think from memory it burns a hole in your catalitic converter...

personally I dont see the point in a bov unless you have some wussy jap import, and a small .

my car sounds cool enough as it is, if i want that woosh i can make it happen with my current dump valve.

if you increase boost pressure a new dump valve is definatly something to upgrade.

but if you dont have more boost there is not much point in touching this part of your car unless you want it to sound like a cheap jap import :P~ its fairly insulting for a car that costs a fair bit.

btw a dump/bov lets air out that is in between the turbo and engine intake.

if it wasnt their the air would knock back and damage the turbo vanes...

I know that GFB makes hybrid valve type which allows some air to be vented back to the intake just enough not to trigger the check engine light, and also releases the excess air to atmosphere to create the sound.

Don't know if it will work on our car though :-??

I don't know what you are saying by Japanese Import cars are cheap?
Is NSX, Supra, RX7 or Rx8, 350Z, and so on are cheap to you?

As Chico mentioned...Go Fast Bits makes two types of hybrid valves. The first one, the "Hybrid" vents about half the air to the atmosphere, and teh remainder is recirculated into the intake again, helping to decrease the Air Mass Meter imbalance. Even more intriguing is a new BOV they've developed called teh "Stealth FX", this one has user adjustable amounts of atmospheric/recirculating air ratios. With the twist of a knob you can dial in how much 'whooosh' you want, as well as keeping your AMM happy. This BOV is really new, they don't have a price quote on their site yet. But someone should try these two valves out and let people know how they work (They were developed with sensitive AMM's in mind). I have an old Saab, but when I get a newer one, i'm gonna want to keep that Rally-style whoosh in my new wheels. Good luck!

i just spoke to one of the techs from that company you bought your BOV from and he said that its a recirculating BOV it DOES NOT MAKE ANY WOOOOOSHING NOISE. He said that this BOV is not made to make any loud wooshing noise. He said that other BOV ---004 is the one that dumps the air out causing the BOV to make that wooooooshing noise. But if u decide to still go with it, let me know if it actaully does make a woooooooshing noise.
