How many times have we all seen the same 8 questions about SMBC's, Intakes, K&N filters, exhasts, and Downpipes? It's driving me nuts. I can imagine that it is irritating to others as well.
If we had some basic stickies about cheap mods, it would be very helpful for all the new people. Anyone?

I'd like to see more sticky's for repair / maintenence items such as the CPS, vibrating wheels, throttle bodies, DIC, fuel pump, etc... if you look at this forum as a database, then there is way to much redundency.

I was talking about the performance area, not the workshop one. But still, it's a good all-around idea. Also, how can I make a cheap intake? Will it make any difference? See? Agh.

agreed.
but being relatively new here myself, i remember what it's like to be that super NOOB. I wasn't till about 50+ posts in that I realized I could do a search on individual forums. ha. I guess if there was a sticky for where to start with your new saab, it woulda saved a bunch of time.... great idea guys! |

In order to be useful there needs to be consensus - Which FAQ's have this? open air intakes? - still arguments everytime this is asked. Which ECU? - no one knows as no one has tested them all. MBC vs ECU tune? Bilstein vs Koni? which springs are best? 22mm vs 24.5mm ARB, 18" wheels, which tyres? etc etc - there is little consensus on these mods so any first timer to these forums who asks these Q's generaly gets different answers and starts off a long debate.

for at least half of those debates, though, there are definite answers - consider the 22mm vs. the 25mm. bar... it is generally agreed that the latter makes the car twitchy, and is probably a bad idea unless a) you live in a state where the roads are like glass or b) you have other suspension mods and are capable as a driver of controlling such a vehicle
i'm sure there are subtleties i'm leaving out here, but this sort of 'general opinion' could be very useful, and would at least cut down on the number of casual i-didn't-bother-to-google-for-myself questions |

kinda on the lines of what shirozina was saying, if there was a sticky on each part on the front page, i think that would be great. like bkrell has this one going on the oil specs...one for intake, one for exhaust, one for ecu, one for suspension...etc, right on the front page, would make things real simple. what do you think?

a problem with the one-sticky-per-part is that half the front page would be full of stickies
i'm assuming that we're talking about having a sticky where the first post is continually updated with the most recent information (be that from new parts, or from discussion later in the thread)... is this right? |

Would a title like this help? "CHEAP MODS FOR THE NEW SAAB OWNER-ADVICE INSIDE-PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING" I mean, since the sticky about the "non-turbo to turbo" thing was placed, those questions have dropped off the map.

maybe something along the lines of "general mod advice for the new saab owner", so we can include things like downpipes, which i wouldn't consider 'cheap'
