Default Air Conditioner Recharge

My air conditioner has been giving me problems lately, mainly not producing cold air. I got a new battery about a month ago and did not realize that the ACC had to be calibrated, so I did that but still no cold air. I checked for any fault codes and got nothing, just a "0". So, I think that it needs to be recharged. I checked out the bottles at auto zone, but I have no idea where to plug the bottle in. This could be a sign that I should be taking it somewhere to get this done, but don't really want to spend the money if I don't have too. Any help would be appreciated.

I would invest in a set of 134a gauges. I believe they high and low pressure will only fit on the correct side. www.twinsaabs.com has info on the pressures. I think the low side runs about 70psi and the high about 250 or so. If you are no where near that then you have a problem. OR you can take it to a mechanic for a diagnostic.

A hint, don't let them charge you for 134a for the diagnostic. They can tell if you if you need more and they can pressurize the system with nitrogen which is $8 a bottle.

I wouldn't recommend these DIY cans of refridgerant you can buy, the ACC system needs an exact amount of refridgerant to function correctly, a gauge reading low/medium/high just doesn't cut the mustard for accuracy. You can get a recharge at a specialist in the UK for 40 so I'd expect $80 max in the US for a proper job.

Thanks for the advise guys, I am not much of a DIY person so I will probibly be cheaper in the long run if I just take it somewhere and get it done correctly.

Right, if you've lost all the coolant from a 4-year-old car then there is a leak somewhere that needs to be discovered prior to recharge. In my case, it was the receiver/dryer sight glass (the first time ). The new receiver/dryer did not have a sight glass. The second time, it was some bad O-rings unrelated to the first repair.
