I just done putting in my own DIY intake after reading this thread and it works great! Didn't take very long at all and no CEL, and the sound is way awesome

I went to autozone and they have a build it yourself intake system by a company called spectre.
I used a:
medium size cone filter
6in tube
60degree bend
3in to 2.5in step-down connector.

I removed the airbox and unplugged the MAF. I used a dremel and cut the top portion of the box at the tube where the MAF plugs into about 3in away from the sensor itself. Connected it all up and tightened it all down and away we went. I'll post pictures tomorrow to give you a better idea for what I did. Next up is a heat shield and I'll keep updated on that as well. I'd take pics now but its too dark here now.

As promised here are the pictures of the job

The original ugliness we all know and loath

this gives you an idea of where I cut the stock airbox off the intake, if you look at the top half of the airbox you'll see a little triangle of bracing at the edge, I cut it off behind that and then cut off that triangle with the dremel and sanded down the the rough edges with a sander bit

I was just looking at those pictures again...so everything before the MAF is stock? And everything after it is the stuff you bought correct? Thanks!

I'm way sorry dude I completely forgot, I'm trying to get my yukon back on the road after a wreck that caused 4k worth of damage put it out of commission. I'm doing it in a dorm parking lot of all things and completely changing the front fenders, hood, radiator core support, a/c condensor, grill and headlights, good times!. I'll try and get it this week though!

No problem man! Take your time. I have some free time this weekend and was hoping to maybe try to give this a whirl. The aftermarket intake I bought is throwing a CEL and I am tired of it going into "limp" mode after about 15 minutes of drive time and from what I have read on the forums, I wasted a lot of money on it and should have just done something like this.

East side campus area. Ive seen a few slightly modded saabs over here. Mainly just 93ss with teachers driving. If you see one that looks like this give me a honk!

Ill probably be avoiding potholes that our city loves to destroy my car with.

Below is a picture of the final custom intake I did this morning. I took the shield from the intake I bought online and reused it for this. Let me know what you all think.
