i have had this problem since the engine was in my old 900.
when its cold the engine is almost silent but as i warms up there is a ticking coming from inside the valve cover. i have done valve clearances about 6 times so far and tried a different cam but the noise is still there. i have also noticed that the valve clearances go out of specs after about 500 kms but only to their previous values. the noise seems to get louder and more ticks begin as revs increase. i am positive that the chain guides are a bit worn but it sounds more like a tappet noise. and also if push hard on the cam followers with my thumbs i can open each valve, should i be able to do that? any suggestions? |

What mileage has the car done? How did you do the valve clearances? Did you add shims?
