9000 Radiators. This might be one of my dumber posts, but what I am asking is: you know how the Saab 9000 has transmission cooling lines that go into the water radiator and in addition, it has the outside transmission fluid cooling radiator existing also. Does this mean that the transmission lines in the water radiator are actually more of a transmission fluid warming system that preheats the fluid by way of the radiator for colder climates? I am giving this story because my plan is to use a radiator with the transmission hookups broken and loop them back into the transmission radiator, making the assumption that the outside transmission radiator will cool the fluid in a moderate climate.

Only outside oil cooler would be the engine oil cooler. As far as I know only the one transmission cooler is used. On early cars this was internal to the main radiator. Maybe on later cars this was changed to an external cooler.
Older radiators were different for manual and automatic transmissions as the auto needed the internal oil cooler. |

When I got my '94 CSE the trans cooler in the radiator had been bypassed altogether and run to an aftermarket cooler that was bouncing about in the lower grill. I have been on the lookout for the factory auxiliary trans cooler that mounts below the radiator as I don't like the way there isn't much of a mounting spot for an aftermarket unit. Finding the proper fluid lines has been my major hold-up. $100+ each for the 3 hoses gets to be a bit discouraging.

Awhile back and on a different Saab, I took the transmission lines to a hydraulic line shop; they replicate lines for trucks and equipment and whatever. They replicated all three lines for about 35.00 you might try that. I went there because the Saab dealer around here wanted 150.00 each also.
