Unhappy Dash illumination lights, connection/earth problems

I have a 79 900 GLs. The dashboard illumination lights don't work and neither does the clock. The warning lights (indicators, handbrake, etc...) are fine as are all the instruments (apart from the clock).

I've checked the connections on both sides of the back of the dashboard and all of the bulbs, and fuses but no luck so far.

Any ideas where to check next? I was going to check the earth point/s but I've no idea where they are!

Thanks
David.

Check the rheostat. The early 900s had a lot of bad rheostats for the instrument panel.

The rheostat is very easy to simply by-pass.

There are 2 rheostats. The instrument rheostat is mounted in the instrument cluster and is not easy to service. The dash panel rheostat is easy to bypass.
