You can pre-order for delivery on 10/26. I already put in my order.
I think Time Machine is going to be the most important new feature for me, can't wait to have my backups done automatically. The new Finder looks pretty cool as well. It seems there are many Apple fans on the forum here, anyone else going to upgrade? http://www.apple.com/macosx/ |

I'd like to , but I have my reserves about how well it will perform on my archaic 1.5Ghz G4 Powerbook w/ 2Gb ram.
10.4.10 runs pretty good for me now. Plus I'm kind of commiting a fair amount of money on group buys for a steel diff. cover, and a short-throw shifter. I suppose that if those don't go through it would be down to Leopard and a new turbo.

I'm new to Apple, but my Dad is looking to replace his PC with an Apple later this month. So I would like to pre-order it with Leopard preloaded.
He is sick of Dell and Gates. It's nice to be able to double boot w/ windows... |

I placed my order yesterday and cannot wait.
To the person with 1.5ghz you should be fine. The only issue you would have is RAM, but I see you have 2gigs and that is more than enough. |

I'm not excited enough to soil myself or anything like that, but Leopard looks pretty sweet. I wonder how much bootcamp has changed, since I guess its not a demo or a beta anymore. But I guess bootcamp doesn't really matter to me too much because I use VMware.
It would be nice if Mac would port over AutoCad, Solidworks, and Matlab |

I just like it because it always works (except for the occasional application hang-up), no need to worry about viruses or spyware, beautiful design of OS and hardware, no need to rebuild my system twice a year and so on.
I work with Windows professionally but it seems I am always fixing the same problems. But please... let's not turn this thread into another "who's better" discussion. |

It just seems sometimes that you mac people are loyal for loyalty's sake, and not because it's that much better or even that different.

I have been using Parallels with Windows XP for 6 months now and it does what I need it to do. Pretty cool is the Coherence mode where Windows applications appear to be running in OS X without the Windows desktop. Only negative is that it can be a bit of a memory hog based on the settings.

There aren't any differences in the OS itself, just some new features and improvement of existing ones. But is pretty much different from other OSes when you look beyond the interface. |

Now I need to get my dad to upgrade his Mac mini! I bought a new iMac over a month ago, so I don't qualify for an upgrade price.

I found the installation of bootcamp to be a damn sight easier than a Windows XP installation on a Dell, with the drivers disk. On the Mac, just install Windows XP as usual, then when it's rebooted, just stick the Apple drivers disk in (auto-runs) which installs all the drivers for everything else - wireless, camera, etc. Dell driver disks just don't do that
I also use Parallels, but boot my bootcamp partition. I do a full boot for games, although Parallels does a very good job of that; a least for a handful of older games, like Quake 3, RTCW, etc. Pants, otherwise. Simply put, it's for gaming ... my wife won't let me buy a console I do hope they've done a makeover on Windows, like they did for X Windows. That would be quite something. Wishful thinking, but we've still not heard some of the "secret features", despite the 300+ new features list published the other day. I'll be buying my Leopard from my local Apple reseller. I like to support them. Personally, I can't wait - I already have a brand new iMac. I couldn't wait for Leopard when I bought it (I had already procrastinated a good three years), but hey, 85 quid is nothing for an operating system. What Time Machine solutions do people have lined up? I fancy hanging a hard drive off the back of my Airport Extreme (upstairs, out of the way), which is also connected to my wired network. I assume it will work with any mounted drive, even ethernet shared? What do people think to Front Row taking on the TV interface? Personally, I really like the simplicity and swishness of the current interface. I find the TV interface a bit ... well ... boring? |
