Possible pacific NorthWest typhoon!

I sure hope this doesn't form!

Getting down into 900mb territory starts to move out of a "depression" and in to a Cyclone. I would like to know what the current wind readings are of this depression.

This is the only chance that something like this could happen. Ocean waters are at thier warmest for us right now. Hurricane( cough, sorry Typhoon) Freda happened on September 29th.

Last one was 1962 and Just destroyed the Pacific Northwest!

"For the last few days the computer forecast models have been suggesting that a tropical depression which is currently 1400 kilometers southeast of Japan over the western Pacific Ocean will slam into the Washington or BC coast on Tuesday of next week. The air pressure in the center of this system is currently only 1007 mb but is expected to deepen to 960-970 mb on Tuesday as it nears North America's west coast. The current estimated path of this storm brings it anywhere from the Washington-Oregon border to the Alaskan panhandle with the BC coast in the middle. Where ever this storm hits it will likely bring very high winds and heavy rain. We will watch this storm closely over the next few days as the path of this storm becomes more defined."

These Guys are a small weather group that I have followed for about 6 years now. they are very very good with thier forecasts; however, they are not official. This is the first time I have ever seen them post something like this.

That's very interesting and disturbing woy. My grandmother, aunts/uncles/cousins all live in the Seattle area.

Uh oh

We are away on vacation right now. the last on (last saturday) dropped a tree onto our deck and very nearly hit the car. pretty amazing actually as it is very protected around our house.

Wow... As a Florida resident, I've gotten used to hurricanes/storms/depressions/etc and keep a supply box on hand all through the season. My sister lives in southeast Alaska, though, and has never been through a hurricane. I guess I better let her know what to expect!

so it looks like to storm is still a go. I was hopeful it would just blow over (no pun intended). As of this morning the path is still unclear, but Oregon to Alaska is the target. I doubt it will rise up to Alaska, the water are just too cold; however, the waters off the shores of Washigton/Oregon are very warm right now.

FIngers crossed. We got destroyed last November/December by horrible winds.

Quick fly east to Montreal, it's like 28 *C and sunny out here! Global warming rocks!!! I'm going to go set a forest on fire so I can go golfing on Christmas.

It is all fun (wearing shorts) and playing games (golf) until your hose is under water.

Not all "strange weather" is caused by climate change, climate change is just the "unatural" or unwanted change for the long term.

The depression has been removed from the site.

Phew.

We are still going to get blasted by some ugly weather, be preapred for some flooding you Wa****onians!

How can we have a grudge against people with a Space Needle and a section on Interstate 5 that is always plugged with traffic worse than LA. What about Iron Joe?

Most people down here pronounce it wash-een-tonians - we don't quite get the 'g' sound in the "ing", but almost... then there are the few transplanted midwesterners that throw an 'R' in there (Warshington).

At least our weather isn't going to be too bad - they're only calling for winds to 20mph and rain that won't be out of the normal...so just a normal weather day for Seattle
