Default How much does a 99 turbo weigh

I was driving through the worcester area today, and I found a somewhat neglected but all-original brown 99 turbo sitting in the driveway of what appeared to be an elderly person's house. I'm thinking seriously of going back and seeing how much money they want for it.

My best guess is that it's most likely not driveable at this moment (needs new tires, etc) but I was wondering how much they weigh, and whether a 99 turbo and a u-haul dolly trailer would weigh under the ~3000 lb tow rating that my 9-5 aero has.

Also, is the bolt pattern on 99 turbos the same as on a c900?

First off it weighs almost as much as your 9-5, and uhaul won't rent a car dolly to you if you tell them it's being towed with anything less then a 3/4 ton truck (I worked there once), and have towed my 900 and 99s dozens of times with uhaul dollies....as for your locale and the saabs locale, check in with a shop called ABJ Foriegn Auto in Sommerville...they are the local saab experts, and can probably tell you who owns it, and maybe help you out towing/procurring it, PM if you need a phone number and or contact

no, they weigh 1609kgs (about 3550lbs)

The B engine and all the Turbo Gubbins make it a heavy old blighter!

that makes it heavier than my 9-5 aero, are you sure that's not the gross weight or something?

DURR: I just checked on saabmuseum and they listed the NA 3-door as weighing 2100 lbs, and ultimatecarpage has the turbo weighing in at 2400 lbs.

but don't forget to add the weight of the car dolly and the fact you won't beable to rent one....it's really not worth the hassle, flat bed it home for about $60-80, instead of $45 for the car dolly

Still under the magical 3000 lb limit I'm afraid, even with the weight of the dolly trailer. The uhauls around here have no idea what's going on, I'll just tell them I'm using the trailer to tow my dune buggy or lotus 7.

thats the gross weight on the VIN plate.

I would put curb weight at about 1200kg (2500lb).

A chassis with no doors, bonnet, boot interior or engine/box weighs 500kgs (i scrapped a rusty one)

The 99T should weigh around the 2500lb range I think, I could check the manuals and the 99T I have at home if you want exact numbers. My brother and I picked up and carried a 99T shell that I parted (due to rust), so a full one can't weigh THAT much! hehehe

You could tow it with your 9-5 on a tow dolley if you could rent one. A friend of mine towed a c900T 50 miles to my house behind his c900T, and he also towed a 99 (without engine/tranny) from North Carolina to NH behind his C900T. You see this kind of stuff in Sweden all the time, 9000s with another 9000 on a full car trailer behind it, etc. Tow dollies are kind of a pain to use because you can't really back up with them so you need to plan for that. It might be worth paying someone to pick it up with a ramp truck so they can drop it off where you want it. I pulled a C900 home from Worcester once with a tow dolley but it ran and was registered and I knew the rear tires and wheel bearings were good.

Lets see some pictures of this thing!
You've got less than a year to get it going for the 30th anniversary of 99Ts at SOC '08 in Devens, MA! DO IT!
