Has anyone set this option on their new 9-3 stereo? I have a new Vector that's about a month old and this option seems to have no effect on the volume of the stereo. Anyone else having any luck with it?

I too have tried to set that option, but have not noticed any difference... Either it works so perfectly I can't even tell its working or..... it ain't workin' at all.

hmm... I guess the acid test is whether or not you find yourself turning the radio up as you speed up. . . I'll have to test that one out, didn't realize it was a feature.

I have also set it up, but did not notice any impact at all.

I agree. I played with the setting at both normal, high, and low settings, and there is no difference. I have to raise and lower the sound manually. We have another vehicle with this feature and I can notice it kicking it at low and high settings -- which tells me this feature on the Saab is not activated or not working.
Another future software upgrade issue? |

I'll throw my hat in too. I can't seem to notice any difference, on any of the settings (off, high, medium or low). I was beginning to wonder if it was just me.

I complained about this to the dealer when I brought my Arc in on Tuesday - the tech marked it as "normal". Sigh.
I know on my '97 900, the volume went up in steps at 50 and 100KPH (37 and 63MPH), but with the 9-3SS, I can't detect a change in volume. Then again, I haven't found it necessary to raise the volume when I'm on the road - hard to say if it's working or not. I suppose I should try it with the feature off to see if there's a difference. |

Same here, I did not notice any difference. Thought that perhaps my hearing was to blame

I think that it does changes the volume, but it is difficult to realise it because the car is TOO quiet for the stereo to make big changes so to be clearky noticed by the driver.

Maybe I'll spend some time with a test CD and a sound level meter this weekend...

I'll test it out also and post my results. Looks like I might have something else to add to the 'back to the dealer' list.

Maybe it works like the Bose one http://bose.com/products/auto/tech-windows.html

Probably not - it is described as speed-dependent, not background noise dependent.

My BMW is usally load when I turn that on. I have to turn it down. Interested to find out your answer.

Well, I didn't haul out my sound level meter, but I did some runs with the feature on and off - no difference.

Speed dependent volume does not appear to work at all in my Arc. I've tried on all the different settings and I still have to turn the stereo up when I get to highway speeds.
I'm betting it's a software fault . . . |

Well, after testing I am coming to the same conclusion that everybody else has. It does not work. I used all 4 settings (Off, Low, Med, High) and there is no difference. Looks like something to put on my dealer to do list.

Our new TiD Linear left the factory last week and we got it yesterday, but same thing as all of you, no audible difference in any of the settings. Well, it IS the one and only "bug" I could find so far, so I will not fret about it. And turning a knob every once in a while reminds you that you're actually DRIVING
