Hi I am the owner of an 89 saab 9000 with a FPT. This vehicle has failed its emision tests with twice the NOx levels it should be putting out max.
During my inspection i noticed there was alot of oil pre turbo, in the tube that runs from the maf sensor to the turbo.... what would cause this??? Thanks Matt |

If you aren't using oil or have very smokey exhaust, it's normal.
If your only symptom is high NOX, you probably need a catalytic converter.

Cat Cat Cat. A new cat and 02 can mask lots of stuff.
I even think that sometimes particulates and things in the exhaust pipe can throw off smog readings just a touch. I had a 77 Ranchero, I installed new cats myself and passed well, then I installed new pipes and passed better! |

A bit of blow by on the turbo compresor, as jim says if there,s not a lot of smoke then no issue
but the oil can coat the coil on the maf sensor throwing out your mixture, try giving it a spray with carb / elec cleaner. |
