Default Replacing Shark-fin Antenna

How do I remove my On-Star/Shark-Fin from my 2004 9-3 to replace it with a "dummy" one?

Remove the cover for the CHMSL and pull down the back of the headliner. Why not just leave it?

His sharkfin may have perished. I had to replace mine too for the same reason. If you don't replace it, water will get in and damage the headliner.

Me too, but if this is the case try and get SAAB to do it free. They know there is a problem. Funny when I first reported this problem here everyone was asking how they could "perish". But that is what happens

Not when it happens after warranty ends. Saab won't do it for free. That's why they sell replacement parts.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the part #'s for the dummy antenna and the Onstar/Cellular antenna and how much they cost?

I dont really agree. If a part has been proven to be defective then they are liable to replace it... A sharkfin does not suffer any "wear and tear" it was simply made from materials that would not last 3 years of wind and rain!. Insist and make a song and dance about it. Tell them that you have written this up on the biggest internet forum etc...

I'm sure the sun does far more damage.

I am a little intimidated to remove my headliner. Can I get some more details on removing this? Maybe a image or two.

Thanks

I don't think you actually need to remove it. Once you remove the cover for the top stop light, I think there's a plastic button you pop off (like the airbag ones) and then you can pull the cover down enough to see in there.

I removed the top stop light cover but could not get the headliner button off. How is this button secured?

Just pull it straight down. if you can't, stick something behind the headliner to pry with.

Replace the old one... No, sorry I didnt say that..
But you probably need to haveTech II tell your car that you do not have OnStar.

Rob,

How did you change your Sharkfin. Mine is cracked and looks like it may start leaking water into the cabin.

Regards

I removed the OnStar box and installed a MOST loopback connector in its place - no more OnStar error.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific.

My Sharkfin has been looking 'rough' for about a year and yesterday I noticed that it has some large cracks in the rubber. It looks dreadful and I am concerned that water may start to leak into my roof lining which will ruin it.

I don't feel confident about removing the roof lining myself so I need to decide whether to take it to to the Saab dealer to have the sharkfin replaced (at huge expense) or if I can get away with just leaving it. Since it iis a MY03 I can't see Saab offering to replace it for free.

Regards

Boyd
