Default Navigation DVD Update

Has anyone tried to update the navigation DVD for the 2003-2006 Nav systems? Navtech sends me to GM and GM sends me to Navtech.

I've also checked the Usenet groups for an update with no success.

Do the '07's and the '03-'06's use the same disk? The '07's have a different navigation system than the earlier 9-3's.

I assume because the radio is different between both cars, that the Nav system disk are not compatable

I have Contacted SAABUSA and they said, " we can not help you talk to your dealer."
NavteQ has not responded to my request for info on this.
and
My dealer stated, " we dont know that much about it. We will get aback to you". that was a week ago.

p.s. does the the nav system have 3D flythru maps?

I am looking to get an 07 Aero at the end of the summer and I am wondering if the navigation is cool/worth-it.

Rob in Atlanta. is it worth it?

I have talked to gbowhny and he likes it but is frustrated by the outdated maps also.

I have the old-style system as I have a 2006. The 2007 is the first with the newer GM corporate system, which I understand is much more user friendly than the older, SAAB-specific system. The older, SAAB system has many "nanny" functions that can be frustrating. Nonetheless, I have found the navigation assistance to be helpful when I'm going to an unfamiliar area.

okay guys,
my dealer just called me back.
this was his response for the 2007 Aero with Nav.

the Navigation dvd for the 9-3 is copy writed 2005, but somewhere on the dvd, or in the software it tells you that is is updated to 2006 maps.
a person who purchases a 2007 9-3 will get 2 free DVD upgrades as they come out.

there will be one coming out in mid-late 2008, and one coming out in 2010. (approximately)

He stated that SAAB would not leave the maps at 2005.

SO all I can say is that he is telling the truth here.
I also can't imagine that they would leave us hanging in 2005 when our 2007's are 3 years old in 2010. MUTINY!

Jerry, I hope this is true!

as a side note, if i can get a 2007 Aero for 30K, I am going to the dealer this weekend! see separate thread!!!

I heard you can use the nav disk from a Mazda RX-8 and you can use the newest version.

Mazda RX-8 until 2005 has the same SDAL disc, and it's a straight swap.
See my old thread.

For US, I found this on Navteq website. Seems like we may struggle to get anything newer than 2008-2009...

Navteq was recently bought by Nokia so I would get your update fast.

I worked in the same business office complex as the Navteq guys. Within about 2 months of the Nokia buy, big trucks came in and the Navteq guys were gone.
