Ditto

Spend a little bit more and buy the correct part, new, from an authorized discount source. Even if this old red DIC did work (which I know it won't) a used part with a known finite life, and that cannot be inspected, could fail on the second day after purchase.

RockAuto sells three different brands of DICs at different price points. Even the cheapest model would at least be new, be the correct model, and have a warranty; even though its low low price raises eyebrows. I don't know if RockAuto ships to Canada but they are big enough that I would expect they sell to Canadian customers.

I just checked and their Beck/Arnley brand is only $156CAD.

$156 for new with warranty and correct model for vehicle, versus $150 for old, used, no warranty, and incorrect model. Seems like an easy decision to me.

If you're gonig used with the DIC; make sure the version is TK 3.7 (new version) and not 3.6 (old version under recall) this info would be on the bottom of the DIC.

Don't put the RED T5 where a T7 black DIC is needed; the code P0340 is a CPS malfunction code related to Ignition and injection not being syncronized with the CPS.

Had that cod about 3 weeks ago p0340 so the 1st thing I did was plugs was fine for 2 weeks now getting the same problem again but no CEL yet

Aktive must not have had the whole story on which DI was for which car ... Christian gave a talk at SOC10 all about DI's ... and it would have blown your mind. He knows this stuff cold!

so im just trying to figure out if i have a bad DIC or not i noticed the car would stumble, as you were hard on the gas the rpms will go up car wont take kit in right away (so i changed the plug as i wasnt running the oem NGK i had the other NGK plugs) after changing the plugs seem to be fine had the power back and every time on the gas she would respond, now it back to the way it was , fuel pump was replaced in dec 09, CPS nov 09, DIC was under warranty in 05 or 06 when they did the recall, i did get a cel code last month which was P0340 so im guessing i need a new DIC if so Scandinavian Auto Service is 438plus tax which is 500, eeuroparts is 420 with plugs free shipping and duty is 27.00 so im looking more toward eeuroparts let me know your fee back

Carl's (SAS) reasoning is probably that you should get a new one rather than a used part or an OEM from E-Bay or Kijiji. But it's worth the search if you have not already done it.

I've noted that many advertisers of Saabs sold for parts have a Tiptronic Ignition Control for sale somewhere. Some of these DIC are new OEM, some are not and it's a question of what you are willing to pay for it. The prices are generally much lower than what you have been quoted to date. I know I have a spare one and I keep it preciously in my «spare parts» division.

I have read many bad experiences on this site with the new non-OEM units, based on this feedback I am not sure I would go this route. No personal experience but the comments seem pretty consistent.

For my cars I picked up a good used one. First one had issue so the vender sent me a second one and it has been fine. Basically it came in and I swapped it for the one on the car (put the good one from the car in the trunk for a few weeks), now I have a known good spare, and a second bad spare one (first shipped one) that runs fine but throws codes--so no need for a future big dollar emergency purchase (and I have a spare for troubleshooting).

It really depends on how desperate the situation is. If you just need to try one and see if it fixes a problem then used OEM (better yet borrow one if you can) may be a good choice (as long as it is the right one). If the car is broken down, well new OEM is probably the best choice and around 500 +- is what you are looking at these days.

Make sure if it is being shipped cross border you consider brokerage fees and shipping costs! May swing the price back to local. I have been burned by this before, spend an extra 100 trying to save 10! Also make sure they have it in stock!

BTW I have had good experience buying Saab parts from Nordicspeed which is Canadian. Rock Auto has also been a good experience but they do not appear to have OEM DICs and they are US, but they cleared HST at purchase so no brokerage fees! Also have had good experience with swespecialist which also ships from Canada, my buddy has also purchased a tonne of BMW parts from their BMW site.

The one off eeuroparts is genuine saab? is that not oem? shipping to me would be free duty and brokerage fees will be about 60 maybe so its 480 and this includes new plugs (26.50 each at any parts store here) the guy in ottawa is 500 with tax plus plugs and im not sure what brand he gets on top of the 500 ill need new plugs which are 26.50 each so another 114 on top so let me know if the eeuroparts is oem or not, if not who has oem ?

Is there anyone in the ottawa area that has a spare DIC i can use for 20 mind to see if this is my problem?

I would assume "genuine" means OEM, you can always ask them and double check.

Either way the better part of 500 just to see if this is the issue seems a little extreme to me (why I went used). Are you getting the bad DIC codes?

I think they are P0340 and P1312/1334, going from memory. Someone here can confirm. I know they don't always throw codes but if there are codes you KNOW....

just put the new DIC in and plugs , took it out for a spin so far seems to start better ill know more in the morning when i try and start it (thats was the biggest problem in the morning would wanna start, sometimes would start rough then die next time start right up(anyway to test the old DIC), it still kinda has a bit of stumble when in 2nd and giving it some gas to get up and go (like giving it gas as in hitting 5500 and then shifting to see if it will do it) so CPS? or ive cleaned the MAF and new Air filter any help at all???

so went out this morning and look the plugs out to look at them from going about 4km ran the car for about 15mins with the new plugs and dic and the plugs are black again only after 20mins ? what would cause this? i took a recording of it starting anyway to post it ? it used to do this

now isn't that bad in the video after the 3rd 4th crank mine starts would this be s starter problem ? the battery DIC and plugs are brand new i have a new CPS to be put in

black plugs would leave me to think your car is running extremely rich, meaning too much fuel and not burning properly.

causes could be faulty injector, bad fuel pressure regulator, faulty firing....as in bad DIC

not sure where I would start, but try cleaning your maf sensor and throttle body

Saab 9-5 D I C from carquest

I just picked up a Saab D I C for my 2002 9-5 from carquest for 332.00 tax included. The lady told me if you go in the store to order, vice online, the cost is less. A day late, untold dollars short. Still a pretty good price compared to the stealership.
