There is a wrecked 89 900i 16v Saloon (4dr) with 80 000 miles on the clock. Suffice to say its pratically mint, except for the demolished part. What sort of goodies should I grab off of it? its not an "S" cpupe like mine so various switches and stuff can't be had, but the motor is fine. I am trying to snag the battery cables, but the guy hasn't given in yet because he wants to compression test the motor first. Any ideas?
Have you swapped front windshields before?
I have an option to pick up a free 92 900 what I really need is a pit free windshield.
Or am I being to thrifty in doing this?
I'd say get the seats..Mine are shot especially the front ones.
I just changed the glass on my Saab 91. 4hrs with the help of my girlfriend. We did sand and paint the rust under the rubber that holds the window and re-sealed everything, so it took more time then just a swap. It nakes such a difference The DIY is explained on www.900areo.com
Get the LH control unit if you can, you'll need it later.... If it has decent leather, grab all of it. Maybe you should try to buy the whole car, finding one with that low mileage would make for a great parts car! But if you can't get the whole car try for the doors, windows, interior fittings, (turn siginal stalks, dash, gauge cluster, etc.) And anything else that looks good.
Cloth dosn't sell like leather (at least that is what I have found) but if the price is right, go for it! If you can't buy the whole car, and you can afford it, maybe you should get the motor and tranny. It is always comforting to know you have spares!
