Dear Saab Owners...

I wondered if you could be of assistance...

I bought a Saab 9-5 Estate TDi 2.2, 40,000 miles, had it for three months now, over the last three days, we have been touring Scotland, on the way home, the car started to belch thick black smoke constantly, it also felt sluggish with poor accelertion, it did not feel as though the turbo was kicking in at all either...

Car is under warranty, however, I though it best to get some advice before I challenge the garage tomorrow morning...

Can anyone provide any information on this problem?

Thanks in advance...

p.s. I bought my Saab to fit my beachcasting fishing rods, hence "saabfishing."

Thanks again!!!:)

Welcome!

Theres not many diesel owners on here, but I will take a guess at the EGR valve or even with the power loss a split pipe to or from the intercooler - seen a few of those happen, even the intercooler itself splitting.

To be honest as our experience is so limited on the diesels I think your saab specialist will have the best advice.........

Unless the rest of the team can chip in?

Thanks to all who gave advice to this problem, it appears that Chris has managed to nail it... The garage has informed me that it was a split pipe that runs from the torbo to the intercooler, thank crunchy, no big bills!!!

Thanks againn folks, i'll stay tuned and see if there is more I can learn about my car...

Best wishes,

Bill

Thanks for that, I'll note it down, I'm hoping its just an air filter, do you think a clogged air filter would create the symptoms suggested...
Sadly no..............but I have my fingers crossed for you!

when running does it "pulse"?. Have you checked for black oily marks on the bottom of the front bumper? How bad is the smoke? Does it use oil regulary?
Reason asking as my old 2003 laguna dci. Died through the turbo eating itself. Used oil for 2 mths, had oil marks on front bumper and pulsed with black smoke when bought, the intercooler had a hole in which the garage patched.
If its giving black smoke using oil and losing power don't drive.

You didn't buy the car from a garage in Leeds????
