I should think if a 'wack' makes any difference one of two things is going on:
1) either the aic is gunked up and needs a cleaning (remove, douche with brake/carb cleaner till the gunk is out and then douche with wd-40. The internal opening should move freely and return with spring action--gently move it with a screwdriver while cleaning)
2) there's an electrical problem with the plug or wiring--carefully clean and inspect.

Typically, the brushes wear on the motor that drives the valve, creating a burnt spot on the armature. Usually they need to be replaced.

Ahh, that would explain how a 'wack' gets it going again, moves it off the burnt spot reestablishing contact for a little while ...

pity they can't be serviced.

So no luck at the junk yard the aic's I found both older and newer had a three pin vs. my two pin the only one they found with two pin was off a 96 so plumbing was different not to say it could not be replumbed...so I lubed and reinstalled mine we will see if I need to replace but after the whack it is working fine and after all the checking and cleaning and tightening she is running well....
