Hello everyone, been a looooong time since I posted. Since I sold my SPG in the fall of '09, I've been a Mercedes and Honda guy exclusively. I'm now on my second AMG! (first a '99 C43, then currently an '05 C55; the C43's '55' engine swap ran into some issues, so I still have it, but once it's resolved, it's going to a new home with my parents!). I also have my '01 S2000, now sporting a supercharger. I also sold my 99 last spring too, and just a couple weekends ago cleaned out the rest of the Saab parts in my garage, gave them to my buddy Marty.

Some links to my old and current cars:

Marty is a car nut and an excellent fabricator with a great sense of imagination. He's an ex-Saab mechanic too, and of course still has a few of them, including another mid engine, RWD c900 ice racer – that one had basically the front end of a c900 grafted into the hatch area. When told me about his new project, I had to go check it out.

Using his old '87 900T as a base, he cut out the rear floor and put in the front subframe, suitably modified, from an Olds Toronado. He also happened to have a very large Olds V8 sitting around, and that has gone into the back too. The fuel tank is now up front, along with the Toronado rad. There is a whole mess of plumbing to the motor, of course. Marty had also added some block hugger headers, and will then construct his own side exit exhaust after that. There will also be oil coolers in the sides - one for oil, one for the trans.

The trans is a bit weird. I had no idea Toronados were FWD, so to accommodate the spacing and whatnot, Marty built a box into which there is a 'torque tube', for lack of better descriptor, going to the diff.

The body is necessarily going to be widened - that hasn't occurred yet, but you can see that Marty's already started cutting. He’s planning to do up something custom to accommodate the wider rubber, probably custom wheels too.

Marty isn’t very Internet savvy, so I said I would post pictures for him. The only ones I have for now were from my iPhone, so hopefully I can snap some more later. I can’t promise regular updates, but I’ll do what I can.

OK, let's see if I'm seeing what I'm seeing. The BIG dual fan radiator and gas tank is up front, where the stock engine used to be; the Olds Toronado engine and drive train are set up in the back, with the pulleys looking to be about where the back seat used to be; and it's going to be RWD?

With his fabrication skills, he could probably shorten the drive shafts so those rear wheels would still tuck inside the fenderwells? Either that, or put some big old wide-body fenders on it, a la Renault R5 Turbo, and let everyone know that ain't a stock Saab:
