My car sat up for a year and is a little slow to start. So I have been pricing batteries. From Advance, wal-mart, etc... Went to sams and there were several batteries for $16-18 dollars. They are changing names so these are being replaced.
So I got a group 47 battery for $16.50 (plus $7 core charge) 2 year free replacment and 6 year prorate. Mind you in 3 years you only get back $8.50

My Lord !
There are some who renew their battery at a dealership and pay that much in sales tax !!!!!
I use a group 75 in the '97 - very easy update,IMO...Sams seems to be giving these away !!
A wise shopper and advanced DIY can save a fortune o'er a lifetime...
I picked up some wally world house brand for about $20. Who cares if I have to replace it every couple years. Unless you are really running some major aux power devices, I cannot see spending on some expensive battery. As long as it starts the car, and keeps you going on th road, who cares.

A second opinion on cheap batteries.
My '50 Buick had a near new Delco 18 month battery in it a while back. After 9 months it failed -; but the PO had given me the warranty, so my father helped secure a new one at minimal cost.
But it is a PITA to have a battery fail; IMO, it pays to buy the better ones with a long warranty..

Yeah, I've been using those too. Mine have been about $40, and have outlasted the cars I've put them in (3+yrs in my volvo wagon, 2 yrs in my vw, 1year and counting in my ng900). Probably the same thing that Marlin got at Sam's, I would think.
I used to always go for the uber-lifetime DIE HARD's, but I can't see spending the cash on one these days. I haven't ever replaced a battery twice in the same car.
