Looking to do it, but $500 for just a muffler? Well, I may have to wait and save for it.

Abbott has a chip for like $1000US that'll ramp the power by 40hp from the garrett turbo.

hey Mav... this is what I was looking at:
http://www.abbottracing.com/2003/index.htm

And also, they've released their "R3" (I think) which has this engine management upgrade. There would be little sense in releasing this after the Vector/Aero make it to market... at least at that price.

Hey what exhaust and chip are you all talking bout? I saw the exhaust you can get from the dealer accessories catalog, for the 2003 they have the dual tip available now and the single (which i want) available later in the year, but to me it looked like a cat back and not just muffler??

Also the chip is that available from Saab, my neighbor said he heard it was but when i asked them they had no idea what i was talkin about, could have just been dealing with a bonehead though? I dont want to do any aftermarket cuz i dont want to void my warranty, I went through all that stuff when i had my VW GTI. hehe

Let me know... very interested.

Saab... dude, just click the link in my last post. An engine management change won't be available from any manufacturer - if they wanted their car to have more horsepower from the Garrett, they'd have given it more power. And exhaust, again, click the link in my last post and look around.

My guess is it voids the warranty. Most companies are really anal about engine management electronics (governor chips, limiters, etc...). But, if it's easy to install, you just swap chips when you take'er in for service

Saabs are not 'chipped' they are re-programmed, so you can't simply swap a 'chip'

Watch this space... and hirsch will be releasing mods very soon.... and hirsch are official.....

Yeh i was thinkin the same thing, I think that Red saab looks bad to the bone though! Only thing what i dont like is I feel that the rear apron should have had cutouts in it for those exhaust tips rather then lay rite undeneath... hmm

but no real other benefit... for USD500 + labour to install = USD700... wow, not really worth it...

You mean the exhaust is not really worth it or the Saab accessories exhaust?

not worth the USD700 to install. To me that is a lot of money for an OEM sports exhaust muffler. If it was one that was tuned by a autosport tuning company, cat back, that really makes a difference in the efficiency of exhausting the spent gases, leading to significant improvement in performance, may be.

I think that the factory muffler/exhaust maybe more $$$ in Canada too, because I was qouted $250 for the system from my dealer, plus $46 for the decor kit, and $125 to install... so thats not too bad...

But im definately on the same page with the fact that it doesnt boost performance that much... I wonder if it gives it a throatier sound.

I agree, the exhaust feels sloppy just hanging under like that... the Mercedes C240 is the same way. I like exhuast pipes that are securely built-in to the rear trim, or better - the side trim hot

Just spoke with Scanwest about whats available for our new 9-3's Looks like as of now there is the Chip/ECU upgrade in which they recomend also the air filter. Also they have springs/struts.

Chip upgrade approx : $900
Air Filter approx : $90

As of now all that is available for our cars is the muffler back exhaust, not a cat back or anything like that, its minimal hp gains, 5hp max, the guy did say it would improve the sound make it a bit more throaty.

Abbott muffler/backbox w/tips: $600 (phew!)

For that id prefer to do the one that the saab dealer has for $295!
