Default Outdated Navigation

Hi all,

complete noob with Saab, just bought my first Saab, got myself a 2007 9-3 vector sport anniversary 1.9tid [150] with the navigation.

After a playing around with the navigation and endless searching on the web, it seems to be that there is no more updates for the navigation and I am stuck with 2006 maps from NAVTEQ. (How disappointing).

I am happy with every other aspect of the car and have been looking forward to purchasing a 9-3 for way too long.

I do not mind having aftermarket double din navigation installed, however i want it to be connected to the existing microphone which is connected to the Bluetooth that’s built-in with the car.
-is this possible?

If i was to take the navigation head unit out, will the built-in Bluetooth integration go with it or is it separate to the head unit?

It would be great if i can keep the steering controls to make calls and receive calls regardless of the head unit installed in the car.

Also any recommendation for a head unit would be highly appreciated.

I have browsed the forums and threads but cannot come to a conclusion.

Many thanks in advance all advice, idea and experiences will be helpful.

Don't know anything about the controls, sorry, but I wonder if the Nav DVD from 2008 works . Only two years newer.
I have not found any upgrades to the Navteq. GM refers me to Navteq and Navteq refers me to GM!

correct me if im wrong, but was the navigation in later models from another company?

Im sure the control can be kept with a stalk adaptor, but still need to know about the integrated bluetooth - if its in the head unit or a seperate module in the car. (will i still have it if i remove the head unit)
and the microphone connections because if prefer to keep the stock microphone as it is super clear suprisingly

You got me wondering so I pulled my manual and DVD. Both say they are 2005/2006 Aisin AW Japan #99001-01941, SAAB Part Number 12770263.

Not sure how I got a 2005/6 disk in a 2008. The manual also mentions NAVTEQ. Not much of a manual, all about warranties. The Infotainment system manual shows a picture of the map screen when you load and it says 2005 also.

I can find this part number for anywhere between $120 and $534 (from SAAB dealers). Part number is always the same, but it is being listed for everything from 2007,8,9 to 2011 SAAB 9-3. No update year is mentioned, just that this is the part #. Maybe someone with a 2008,9,10 or 11 can tell us the part number on their disk and the update year. Possibly upgrades do exist or everyone has a 2005 map set!

I also see a SAAB part # 12770380 shown elsewhere in the forum and for sale on line. hows for 2007,8,9 so maybe the 12770263 and 12770380 are interchangeable with 12770380 being an update.

Personally I do not like the navteq maps, 1) it does not allow post code search and many new roads and routea are not on the dvd disc so at the moment it is a complete useless gadget in the car.

My maps dvd shows 2005/6, on boot up in doesnt show anything apart from the Saab logo.
It was a rather limited system.

Does anybody know if the 'Intergrated bluetooth system' which i control from the steering wheel and the sid information display on the cluster have any connection to the actual navigation unit?

I want to upgrade the navigation unit to another afermarket unit but want to keep the so called integrated bluetooth system and the steering contols.
