Default 1975 saab99 waterpump removal

ok, after much research i shouldnt have used the slide hammer..... wrecked the 12cog gear on the pump....

since then i ordered a new waterpump from classic car garage. it arrived with the brass housing around the bearings / seals.

now when i removed the old pump there doesnt seem to be a brass cage.... is it still stuck in there? or have i ordered the wrong waterpump?

i cant assume this is the original engine. i bought the car used in 1996. but it is the waterpump style thats under the intake manifold, it is a 12 tooth cog, and the 2 pumps (old and new) look identical. only the new one has a brass cage, and the old one is just the guts...

did i order the wrong pump? or is there still guts in the engine block that i need to pull out?

Oops Welcome to the forum

I hate to possibly make things worse for you, but did you also damage the jackshaft? And are the bits from the teeth still in the block? I think you've got an engine out situation here (if it isn't out already).

1977- blocks they deleted the brass cage and associated o-rings. Prior to that, they sometimes get stuck in the block. All other components are interchangible. Check the cut of the teeth on the replacement pump as I've heard some aftermarket pumps were made wrong.

no, the jackshaft survived. and i've cleaned everything up really well.

so, if i have no brass block in there. then my engine is '77 or later. if it is just cast block. then i have to push the guts out of my new pump to instal it in this motor???

i will check on the splines to see how well they mate after i get this brass cage figured out.

wow, awesome link!!! thank you soo much!!!

so i guess my only question is, what are my chances of disasembling this NEW pump to use the bits in this '77 or later engine? do you think its possible to dissasemble it while saving the bearings / seals? i checked and there definitly isnt a brass cage stuck int he block........... orderedt he wrong pump........ can i get away with it???

if so, im on it!!!! but i wont start till i get some sort of approval.. ha ha ha, internet approval (giver!!!) ha ha ha.

thanx soo much for your help.

Yes, it should dissasemble fine. If not, the individual components are cheap. Only the impellor and shaft are the expensive bits.
