My friend works at the UK Top Gear track (toilets lol) and has challenged me to a race with his Subaru.
Which of my two cars will go best round the track? My 1993 T16S, or my 2004 9-5 Aero? Or should I just politely decline?

How is the gearbox in the 900? If it's tip-top and you're happy to take it gently off the line, I'd say that one.

If you take the 900 on road tyres Id suggest 40psi at front and 34 at back .That will hopefully stop the back from coming round. Learnt this the hard way in the weekend! Cant comment on the 95 but Jeremy Clarkson seemed to find a lot of wheelspin.

and mine has the front anti roll bar as well....don't know if that is good or bad as lots of you guys seem to take it off.
I could also take all the surplus seats out as well, they all must weigh 50kg, run it on a low fuel level and lose another stone in weight. .......hmmm, while I'm at it how much do those doors weigh lol |

My gear box seems lovely. After owning her for a year it has never whined, crunched or jumped. And I suspect type 7 primaries but don't know as the label is definitely missing from the case

2002 model 210bhp stock but he is throwing money at it....3 inch exhaust, uprated turbo and injectors. Says he wants to get 300bhp out of it, but it will probably blow up coz he is 25 lol.
I am nearly double his age |

The Aero will probably be a little faster around Chicago and in the Follow Through, but the T16 should be able to handle Hammerhead and Gambon a little better.

Goes like stink in a staight line but steering wheel becomes cosmetic when you reach the corner....I think it's called conservation of angular momentum, and the 9-5 conserves it in spades....maybe I should insist on a drag race.
I had 3 9000's prior to the 9-5 and the 9-5 IS an improvement, but then it is the Aero so I should bloody well hope so. Looks like the money is on the 900 in the twisty bits and the Aero on the straights then. Maybe I can swap engines? |

Put that 2.5" exhaust (without Cat. I guess? Gives you better spoolup and a few extra horsies) on the 900 and tweak the APC. Than you can get close to the 9-5 in terms of horsepower, if you take in the weight of the cars you might even surpass it!
It's easy to say that it's waaaay more fun driving with the 900 than with the 9-5 so my choice would be very easy! |
