Well, i walked out to my car this moring, and **** i have a flat tire. The rear passenger. I need to decide if i buy just one new tire or go ahead, bite the bullet and buy 4 new ones.
I currently have BF Goodrich KDW2's - their soo noisy right now, it may be worth it to buy new tires. Im looking at the following - Hankook Ventus R-S2 -or- Sumitomo HTR+ i know the HTR+ is all-season, but if i got these id sell my winter set up. So what should i do?

You are asking for advise, so ... not that. All seasons are no good beyond freezing, forget about the benefits in snow. Put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ on the car, keep the winters and you will be one happy camper! The Pilot Sport are the quietiest tires I've ever driven on. And exceptional in the rain too.

^^^Agree w/ Scott
IMO you're downgrading if you go w/ the Hankook or Sumitomo. Personally, I would buy just one BF Kdw2's then replace all 4 when it's time.....

Wulf's suggestion is good. Fix the tire if the nail is in the tread, not near or in the sidewall. If the tires are noisy and you wish to change, this is a reasonable excuse.
As far as winter tires, keep using them. Nothing, including all-seasons, beat them for winter use. The rear tires seem to get punctured more based on all the tires that I've seen over the years. I used to think the front was more suseptible since it runs over the road first but this is not the case in practice. |

Fix it. Tires are too expensive and prone to accident to replace on a whim. First thing you know you'll hit a nail with your NEW tires.
But if you have 4/32 or less I'd say go new. Recent tests 4/32 is significantly performance hindering (traction/stopping), don't wait for 2/32. |

I really dont want all-seasons. I just need a good Summer tire that has good tread life + ride comfort + low noise levels. And i dont want to spend too much. Any suggestions??

I had some all seasons for the past two winters in Michigan. I did struggle on a few days where there was lots of snow. In the summer they were good. Overall workable. Snows are great but you also pay for the snows and then the summer tires - it is cheaper to just get a seperate set of rims then to have them changed every year.

I chose these....
Pirelli PZero Nero 235/40/ZR18 ![]() - i also got Tire Rack Road Hazard Program, so if i get another screw in my tire, i get the tire replaced. Anyone else have this?

I was just curious why you would choose an expensive max performance summer tire with a treadwear rating of only 220 for an '05 9-3 Arc. It seems a grand touring or lower performance tire with twice the tread rating would be a better choice.

I had BFGoodrich KDW2's and their an extreme performance summer. I have a set of dedicated winter wheels, so why not get some high performance summer tires. And if i need to get new tries in a year and a half so be it, but i should have a new car by then.....i hope

you could sell the KDW2's x 3 and make some change to compensate for the new tires. Regardless the pzeros are good from what I hear.

Hey man, I was doing a little research on tires as well. Although I'm a little late, I heard that the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position's are awesome. These are going to be my next set of tires...
![]() Oh, and wouldn't you want to do an all wheel alignment if you get new tires as well? Just a thought. Last edited by Saabman900; 05-11-09 at 03:44 AM. |

I love the HTRZ IIIs better than 90% of the Ultra High Performance summer tires out there, and a bargain compared to any that can come close, only the Kumho Ecsta SPTs are competitive in price and performance. IMHO
