Default NorCal - HWY 1 All Euro Cruise, Nov 7th

Now that the tourists are gone, I figured this would be the perfect time to start an all euro cruise down scenic HWY 1. I've been cross posting this in various euro forums and so far it's generated some pretty decent VW, BMW, Audi, and Volvo interest, but I'd REALLY love to see some Saabs in there as well. So come on out and enjoy a killer drive with your fellow euro enthusiasts.

What: A scenic cruise down California State Route 1 from Pescadero to Big Sur.

When: Saturday, November 7th starting at ~10:30am (drive starts at ~11:00am)

Who: Any euro car is encouraged to come out; however, if yours is out of commission, feel free to roll in your sisters Camry. Just park it away from the crowd and drive towards the back of the pack for picture taking purposes.

Route & Itinerary: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=...h&z=8

10:30am - Meet at Pescadero beach
11:00am - Depart Pescadero
Stop at Bonny Doon beach in Bonny Doon for photos etc.
Stop in Watsonville for gas/snacks/bathroom.
Stop at Monastery beach in Carmel for photos etc.
ETA 2:00pm - End trip in Big Sur @ the River Inn, optional lunch. http://www.bigsurriverinn.com/

FRS Radios: Radios, if you have them, should be set to channel 13.3

Here are a few teaser shots I took a few weekends ago. If these don't make you want to come out, I don't know what will.

So far I'm expecting at least 20 cars, but you never know. Sometimes 20 people post, but 50 people show up.

Seen a lot of interest over at VWvortex, GolfMKv, e30tech, norcale30, swedespeed, and turbobricks. Might want to check out those forums if you're looking for folks to caravan to the meet with. There are already a couple of caravans going.

I am quite interested but it seems it is quite far from SF. Ill try to make it though.

How is the road quality along the road? I went from SF to Tahoe and the road sucked!! Totally didn't enjoy it because of all the bumps

Just checked again, it seems the starting point is just an hour away, so I will be there unless I have to work on saturday.

Yeah, it's really not that far. Actually, probably less than an hour.

"MoparShaha" on the VWvortex & GolfMKV forums is starting a caravan from SF, you might want to check that out. I tried posting a link but then it said my post had to be approved by a moderator. So it'll probably show up a week from now all out of context, but whatever.

We were just on a family trip to California a few weeks ago... it's gotta' be one of the best drives in the country. We flew into S.J. Went down to Monterey Bay then ran US-1 down just a few miles south of the Herst Shack in San Simeon... $70 for a hotel... cheap!!!

I'd highly suggest driving this chunk of road to anyone... even in a Ford Focus rental car with a three year old in the back seat going "WHEEEEEEEE" and a wife that kept asking... "how many corners are on this dam'n road?"

P.S. Bixby Creek (sp?) bridge was temporarily closed because they were shooting a commercial for a new Porsche. No car there though... everything is done in CG I was hoping for spyshots!

LOL, so how'd you guys get around it?

BTW: speaking of spyshots and such, I keep seeing SLS AMG's in the area. Yesterday I saw a whole f'ing slough of them going south on 101/152. No "camo" either. I'm guessing they're either wraping up their final road testing or doing some kind of press / "hey look at me" event. Either way, they are STUNNING in person.

By the way, if you're coming from out of the area, this would be a good chance to get a hotel in the Monterey area and hit up the Marina auto-x on Sunday. I know there will be guys from some of the other forums going.

Hit up NorcalUFO.org for details.

Japanese cars welcome? If they're outfitted like this, YES!

it's not if the cops show up, it's when. Luckily both the rangers in Pescadero and Carmel were cool.

Great overall showing. Hopefully we can get some more Saabs at the X-mas GTG. Checkout the Sofa King Euro X-mas thread in the events forum.

I do like that BMW 2002. I've always been a big fan of those. Nice pics!
