'85 16s: starts fine and runs fine, turbo great, all for the first 15 minutes. After about 15 minutes if you come to a stop at a junction say, the car idles fine, but as soon as you put your foot on the accelerator it won't rev. Take foot off accelerator and put it down again and it will rev, but it won't hold a load unless you keep the revs above 2200 and slip the clutch.
AMM resistance is 380 ohms and can be changed, car has '86 ECU in kickpanel (missing when rescued from breakers), good spark at all plugs, plugs are NGK and new, vacuum hoses have been checked and replaced, coil is good. NTC is fine as well and no check engine light comes on. No O2 sensor or catalytic convertor on car. Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on, 'cos I am running out of ideas? Cheers, Fraser |

a few questions
this prob is fairly recent? i.e., the car ran w/o probs for some time after 86 ECU install (86 ECU is a compatible non-O2 sensor unit)? you stated earlier no AIC, but AAV like CIS?? and it cks out okay? do you also have the pictured CSI/CSV (if so, test it for leaking)? did you adjust your TPS? what does your timing do, when going from hot idle to 2200RPM (does it advance properly)? do you have strong acceleration in mid to upper RPM? fuel pres is good? have you readjusted or do you have another AMM you can swap in (is it an 005)? Bentley and Haynes will have more ideas! |

Could it be the throttle switch either not working or being incorrectly adjusted? Car sounds like it is running on the idle map, but then isn't coming off it when the throttle is opened.

That is what I was thinking Alex. How do I test for this map thingummy?
The car runs fine, apart from this problem. Acceleration is fine. AAV is fine. TPS has been replaced and checked and is fine. Car ran OK with '86 ECU in, but then it started quite quickly to have this problem, not every time one drove it though. Now it is everytime. Swapping 005 AMM doesn't make any difference. Don't have another ECU to swap |

Not sure how to check the map unfortunately. Have you checked if the TPS signal is making it to the ECU?
Also, has the fuel pressure been checked? |
