Play in steering wheel?

I just replaced the rack in my 99 9-3, now i have a little play in the wheel not much but noticeable wasnt there before, any suggestions?

Some racks had an adjustment to take up backlash...

The source ?
Rebuilt, brand new, or used ?
And what was wrong with the old ?? - I think that the rack should last the life of the car, but that the tie rod ends will wear...

replaced with used, leaking bad i think the previous owner used wrong fluid at least thats what i am told, how do i adjust the backlash?
