Has anyone added fog lights not made for a Saab to their car? My Linear has no fog lights and have seen the Hella fog light kits that I presumably could mount where the Saab OEM fog lights would go. Wouldn't bother me to have to place a switch under the dash to operate them and don't see how the SID would be affected. PIAA sells kits as do many others. Beats paying $600-plus for dealer to do OEM.
Anyone care to chime in?

Do you really need them? If so I would go SAAB and probably install myself.

Personally, I'd just pick up a set from a junkyard. Car-Part.com is a good site. It found me a $250 bumper in almost perfect condition. Saved me about $500 by letting me mount the bumper myself and getting it painted instead of paying to repair the damaged shell.

However instead of a switch under the dash, wire them to the "-" button on the dash if you decide to go this route. It was made specifically to accomodate the addition of auxillary lighting since it is very common to do so here in Sweden. That is assuming that you haven't used that button for something else.

Fog lights, These stylish front fog lights will not only give your Saab a sportier look, but they will also improve visibility on misty days.
The pack includes two fog lamps with moisture-proof connectors and bulbs. Model: 9-3 Sports SedanYear : 2004Price *: 151,16 €Part no. **: 12787092You might want to check the SAAB price. The French site says €151 which is less than $200 http://www.saab.com/main/GLOBAL/en/a...1/result.shtml |

GenuineSaab sells the Saab fog lights for $99 and the dashboard switch for $58. I am not sure where you get the $600 quote from but that probably includes dealer installation? It's pretty easy to do yourself and I wouldn't mess around with aftermarket lights and wiring for that price.
http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=267 I have the install instructions here so you can check it out before you purchase: http://saabmedia.net/manuals/9-3/index.html Last edited by Wulf; 03-09-07 at 10:43 AM. |

The cost would indeed include dealer installation and the Tech II service.
I was asking for anyone who had already done a non-Saab fog light install since I did look for Saab parts initially. Looking for more bang for my buck is all I was doing... Wiring to the "-" button is a good idea!

I happen to have a spare set of fogs, so I am wondernig about this too.. the obstacle I see is finding trim pieces for the grille. Does anyone make those?
As parts prices go tho, the Saab fogs are cheaper than the ones I put in my B6 Passat (only issue might be if they need to be enabled via Tech II) Mike |

I keep putting off actually going though with the idea of adding fog lights. My idea is to just go to a boutique car store (Car Toys, etc.) and add a set of PIAA fogs, placing the rocker switch under the dash. Wouldn't have to be Saab fog lights and so long as the install looks clean, I'd be happy. No need for a Tech II circus.

Can I ask a stupid question? Will the kit on genuinesaab.com work on a 2007? It says 2006, but I didn't know if it just hadn't been updated. Thanks!

I'm looking to purchase an 07 9-3, and it has everything except premium package. I did a search and found out that it looks like it IS possible to add them to an MY07.
Can anyone confirm they have done this? Also, it looks like there are 3 steps: 1.) Buy parts from genuinesaab.com 2.) Install them yourself 3.) Take to dealer to activate Tech II (or something like that) Are the cars pre-wired? It looks like you can buy the fog lights ($99), the switch ($58) and the MY06 wire kit ($56). I searched and read a lot, I just want to get one straight answer. thanks. |

a thought and some questions
is "-" a functioning switch? if so, why buy the $60 official fog light switch.. also with this, there would be no need (?) to get TechII change... ie. for the fogs I installed on a previous vehicle, there are really only 3 needed connections... power, gnd, on/off. Mike |

As a side note, I've found a reeal curiosity.. I figured I'd try some salvage yards to see if any bargains existed there... most of them want ~$100 _per_ light... vs. $113 for both from the dealer... told that to one guy, who went and re-confirmed his pricing.
At ~$260 for all the parts (lights, harness, switch) + Tech II charge, I may just abandon this idea. So much for the cheap upgrade it initially appeared to be.. |
