Hello folks,
I am a first time SAAB owner. Got my 2006 9-3 2.0T just a little over a month ago. About a months ago I started noticing this strange noise when I press the gass pedal after turning the engine on. It sounds ( and feels) like if some heavy cable undernief the car is being pinched. After I start driving the sound doesn't come back unless I stop the engine and turn it back again. Demonstrated the problem to mechanic; he couldn't say what it might be right away. He wanted to lift my car. After waiting an hour or so I was told that there was NO problem and the sound I hear is ABS system reseting itself. I dunno... Somehow it doesn't sound convincing to me. Any thoughts? |

While I can't find anything in the owner's manual (2006 93SS 2.0T), I have the same noise in all three of our 93SS. Previous cars I've owned with ABS/traction control had the same type noise when initially starting to move the car. Those owners manuals did say it was a self-test of the ABS system. This is normal, not a problem.

geezee, I asked the same question in this forum after purchasing my first Saab 4 months ago and was told by a few people here it is the ABS resetting itself. Most people here seem like they know what they are talking about, so I have learned to get used to the noise.

Yes, it's the infamous ABS self test, perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
My wife's Mini Cooper does exactly the same the first time the speed gets above 15mph, so it's not just a Saab thing... |

In fact, this has been discussed many times, and if you do a search, you'll see everyone has this noise and it's the ABS. |
