okay, I searched for this information but could not find it. I think it would just be easier to ask anyway.
I just bought a 1983 Saab 900 Turbo with 87000 origional miles. I am the type of person who immediately begins planning modifications when I take delivery of a vehicle, but I realized that I know absolutely nothing about Saabs. Here is the question(s): What is my chassis code?(4 door) What is the code for the turbo? What is the stock boost level? Any other information you think would be good for me to have is much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Brandon P.S. If you know of any good performance sites please let me know what they are. |

Welcome, for performance mods etc there is a section specifically for Saab 900 classics if you go to the forum tab and click on it.Also try searching using the tab highlighted in blue for any specific questions, you will find most of the answers you are going to ask have already been posted and there are some superb replies. As far as your questions the chassis code imho is on the vin plate on the rhs front wing under the bonnet, I would assume you have an oil/air cooled Garrett turbo t3.For stock boost levels visit Townsend Imports there is a whole section on setting base boost and other great bits of information. Hope this helps.

1983 might be oil only cooled turbocharger.
Before you start modifying the car you must ensure it's in an excellent state of tune. Spend your money on fixing the niggles and issues first, enjoy driving it and then make it go faster.

Oh and while I remember theres a good site www.sacsaabs.org/speed.htm that tells you how to make your Saab better then how to make it faster, its quite comprehensive and easy to understand.Good luck

my philosophy has always been make the car better in every aspect...not just power. Power only takes you so far before your car won't go any faster. Suspension is just as important. Plus, I like twisties more than I like straights.
