A friend (not one of my smarter ones) borrowed my Saab. He could not find the gas tank lever release, so instead he pulled the gas tank cover off!!

I didn't know saabs had a gas tank release. Might need to get a new cover and bolt it back on.

Just to clarify; the person could not locate the gas tank lever release (located to the left of the driver's side seat). This is the mechanism that causes the Gas Tank Cover/Door to pop open so you can access the Gas Cap/Cover.
I think I need to find a used part from a salvage yard. |

My '92 900 doesn't have a gas cap release- you just open the little door and unscrew the cap... I'm thinking it's an aftermarket thing. Or maybe different models have different covers?????

That's a thought, perhaps I have not been driving a Saab afterall?
Yes, this car has a release to open the Gas Tank Cover so you can access the gas cap. I spoke with my mechanic, it requires a new/salvaged part since the cover was cracked completely off. Lesson Learned: Friends don't let friends who are non-Saab drivers drive their Saab. Half the time they can't find where the key goes anyway |

He said '92 900 in the first post. But I've never seen a lever for the fuel tank on a C900 either. We did have a thread a while back with a bloke who was convinced he had a 1989 900, and kept saying how the SID was fading, the parking brake alarm went bing bong and he had a low coolant warning. Despite around 40 people telling him it was a GM900 he wasn't having it
