Hello,
I have a 2005 9-5 Arc sedan. I was looking into performance parts and I saw the Saab sport exhaust in the Saab catalog (#32025710). It says it is $486.00. It also says it replaces from the rear m uffler back. Does this mean that it is just a tip? Also, if it is more than a tip does it work without the rear muffler, just foreward of the muffler, and if so, how loud is it (obnoxious or not?). Also, what kind of performance gains can be expected/ Someone told me 20hp but I think that seems like alot for just exhaust. Thanks -Jack |

The sport silencer replaces the rear muffler only. It is not just a tip so to speak.
It does not remove the muffler and is so incredibly quiet its a complete waste of time installing one as it wont get you any extra power. (and its expensive!) If you want a new exhaust buy a 2.5" simon cat back from gen saab or a 2.5" one from CTI for the same price.... there not noisey and sound good when you nail it.... |

If you look at a Stage 1 and a Stage 2 car, the differnece being just the cat back exhaust, the power levels are normally about 2-5hp more and thats with optimised software. On a stock car - well it should sound better

Thanks for the input guys,
My only concern is that I just bought the car certified used, so I think any non-saab parts would void the warrantee (so ironic since we were so happy we had the warrantee after we put 100 miles on the car and the thermostat went...would have been $600!). Also, as far as other upgrades, if we were to get a stage 1 kit from genuinesaab, would that void the warrantee. And how is the saab sport suspension kit? one more question... would the exhaust upgrade offer any more power gain with a differnt intake like this one: http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=311 Thanks, Jack |

Also the exhaust and intake will make very little performance difference in my opinion The big gains (initially) are from ECU (software - stage) upgrades - now whether your dealer could detect a software change, and void your warranty I dont know I guess the BSR unit which enables you to simply de-tune back to stock is an option........................... What size engine is in your car Jack

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I have an Acr 2.3t lpt. it is starting to sound like it is impossible to do much without voiding the warrantee. I was going to run a dianostic test with the computer, but I had laptop troubles. I assumed that there was something special about this thermostat since it was so expensive, because I have installed/replaced thermostats before, and it is not usually a bitg deal, but then again I do not have much Saab experience so maybe it is more complex on a Saab? Any other ideas for upgrades without vioding the warrantee? Thanks, Jack PS- I'm in the US so I guess Hirsch is not an option... Bummer. |
