got a '97 900s- I am pulling the engine out and the only hangup is the removal of the passanger side cv shaft/axle. There is a bearing carrier on the shaft to support its long length- do I need to remove the carrier to take out the shaft? What am I missing? I have done search and seen engine removal pics but no one mentions this "extra long" shaft.

Mine has a two piece drive shaft, on the right side..
Why not leave the inner section in place and yank out the outer section.
Am I right or wrong ??
I used to use a 5 foot long tire breaker bar to "pop" the inner joints...on the good old ones..
I've been trying to find some shots of my own [but damn my filing system!] I'm sure once the intermediate joint boot is removed the bearings just slide out [and sloppy grease drips everywhere] you leave the supported section attached to the block.
Engine shifted on the way out, broke an AC line also, still cant get the damn engine out. ;oops:
