Buying a 900S - advise needed
Hi all,
Looking to purchase a 900S non-turbo (pref 2 dr) as a daily driver (90 miles per day, 5 days a week). I've got my sights set on a non-turbo only for maintainence cost reasons. The ideal car should also serve as a means to transportation during ski season :-) Had a few Saabs in the family from a 9000 Aero to a 9-3 convertible and have always loved them. Currently own a 3 series and a 1996 911 which my wife and I treasure a lot, and a beater 1987 Toyota Camry that takes me to work every day. I'm thinking of travelling my 90 miles a day in style and would appreciate any input on: 1. Reputable Bay Area Saab mechanics, anywhere between San Jose and San Francisco 2. Any advise on model years (the consensus seems to be the newer the better) 3. Expected cost of upkeep I appreciate any input in my hunt for the perfect 900, and look forward to re-joining the Saab clan. Thanks much. |
Hi,Buy newer low mile pre loved classic 900.Check Saab Central Classifieds. The best auto investment for safty, comfort, daily stress relief and smiles per gallon.Ask the owner what oil he uses and then see what he says,if its synthetic he really liked his car.Ask for service records and where its serviced! It will last for years if you and the previous owner care for it.Get ready to enjoy the road, Pat

Essentially you'd be better off finding a 3-door Combi Coupe. Much better versatility and I've never even seen a 900 2-door in person anyway.
1987+ models have the 16 valve engine on the 900S, however most 900S models I see are 4-doors. And automatics. I would avoid automatic cars, to keep them that way. I'd get a car with a bad slushbox and put a 5-speed in it, if you are pretty good with mechanics... |
