Over the past few months I've been rebuilding the front suspension.

The symptoms I was tackling:

Clunk at acceleration from stop

"rattle" feel when going over bumps or rough roads

Steering wheel gets yanked every which way when going over bumps or rough roads

I still haven't done my shocks/strut inserts. I have the tools now, but haven't had the time.

I started with replacing the control arms, strut bearings/mounts, outer tie rod ends, and links.

The car felt better, but the above symptoms were still there with the exception of the clunk. That was resolved by the strut bearings. I didn't do the inner tie rod ends because they "seemed" fine. Same with the sway bar bushings and steering rack braces.

Last weekend I finally broke down and replaced the inner tie rod bushings with a set of US made Moogs. They were cheap and relatively easy to replace.

DING DING DING!

I can drive over a rough road now with my hands off the steering wheel and it tracks straight. No more rapid vibrations from the bumps.

While the ends felt tight, the rubber was crumbling inside. The repair was cheap and easy.

The only tricky part was putting the lock washer thing over the nuts. I found putting a 19mm socket on a 3/8" breaker bar with a cheater, and placing that socket over the nuts then levering against the intake manifold made quick work of snapping that on. Of course it took an hour of me trying to do it by hand and with pliers to think of this...

So i've been researching and googling for a few hours and I've got a few questions. My 2007 9-3 2.8T Aero has a bad coil at 68k miles. (cylinder 5, firewall side) I've decided I'm going to have the the back 3 coils replaced at an indy shop with Wells coils (part#C1508) and I'll replace the front three myself.

My main question is regarding spark plugs. I plan on getting a stage 1 tune (either Vtuner or JZW) in the next few months, after i address this issue and some new tires. Since I have to replace the coils, I want to replace all the plugs at the same time. I'm not sure which plugs to run, (Denso's, NGK's, Stock, etc.) I also don't know if it is ok to run aftermarket plugs at modified gaps and heat ranges on a stock tune for a few months until I tune.

So i guess what I'm looking for is:

-are the Wells coils (C1508) suitable ignition coils?
-Is it OK to run a tuner-recommended plug set-up on a stock tune for a few months?

Thanks for your help, everyone.

Hello all!
I have tackled my non working dash light problem. As it had turned out, when I reafixed the knee bolster I had forgotten to plug in the glove box light, and the wires were arching. Glad I found the answer to my constantly blowing fuse 23.
Questions are as follows:
1. My dimmer switch (the switch pack one, not the one built into the dash fascia) does not change the intensity of the dash bulbs. I assume this means the switch is no good? Can it be repaired, or shall I thief one from another one of my Saabs?
2. I have an aftermarket radio. I have figured out how to wire up the front speakers, however the rear are a bit tough. I know that the rear speakers are powered from an amp (where this amp is, I do not know). I have isolated which wires correspond to which speaker. However, I assume these inputs are supposed to be a "low" input; ie what are the round RCA style connectors on an amp. I have cut the connector off of the connector the enters the stock radio for the rear speakers, and when I connect the high input signal from the headunit to the low input wires to the amp, it only plays from the right side and it has a ton of engine whine. My questions are:

Does it only play out of one side due to the low/high discrepancy? If I touch any of the other amp wires to anything it instantly cuts sound to the right speakers and I am left only with front speakers. Is there possibly a short on the left hand side?

I have a "low" output on my my headunit. Can I soldier RCA style connectors to the amp wire to properly power the amp? Will I have any distortion/feedback?

Thanks for your time!
Tom

I tried searching and to no avail all i could find was comparisons of the engines in our 9-3's and the chevy cobalts. But i wanted to know if our saabs share the same suspension setups as the cobalts because i want to run an airride suspension in it. I found a kit online from airlift performance via : http://www.airliftperformance.com/ap...vrolet-cobalt/

If the suspension is the same then i would definitely pick this kit up since it would save me time and money doing a universal airride kit.
I need advice on repairs for my 9-3, today, I started my Saab and while idling nad putting in gear, I heard a POW and the engine stopped. I checked under the hood and found the serpentine belt had disintegrated into dust! upon inspection, I found 3 black circles on the ground along with a pieces of the belt. later, I checked under the hood and found that the top pulley is frozen and down to the metal only?

I've only had this Saab for 4 days, this is a 1 owner vehicle with 71K miles and in very good condition.
Here are some pics,
It doesn't seem to just work at night when it's cooler, etc. It'll work when I start the car sometimes and sometimes it won't.
The only thing that has been consistent is that if it doesn't work when I first start my car, it will not work until it is restarted again later in the day.
Any ideas? Clutch?

I think it was about 3,700 pounds for the manual and they commented probably more for the Combi.

I have combed my manual a dozen times, read all the articles and Saab promo literature and the only numbers are for the conventional FWD's.

Anyone have a clue?

Yeaah I know I am basicly cheating here, I've been a Saab loyal follower since 1996...first car a 1999 9-3, had it for 5 years and a lot of headache later( I didn't know about update #6 back then)....and I got a 2002 9-3 which has been doing good to me thank's to you guys....now my wife drives a 2008 9-3...which we are happy about but I have to say the 2008 is not really a Saab at all...my 02 gives me that smile on 3rd and 4th, the kind that Jeremy Clarkson talked about.

Anyway, recently I kindda have my eyes and thoughts towards a 2005 and newer Jaguar x-type 3.0...I know I should probably post this in Jaguar forum but I wonder if any of you guys ever had any experience with this car such as:

1. Fun Factor
2. Reliability
3. maintenance cost
4. part cost
5. what kind of headaches are they prone too.
and such....

Anyway, I've been waiting till I can afford the 2012 9-5 mkii model but that's going to take a long time.

I removed the shifter last night and the lockout pin is jammed hard to the ring of the selector shaft , key is fully operational but not changing the status of the lock pin . Removed the triangular nuts in an attempt to get some movement away from the pin to no avail . This is all being done under torchlight , It may become clear in daylight , but any suggestions appreciated .
