I'm kindda new to saabs,I had one drop in my lap a few months ago, a 94' 900s nothing special, but drives pretty good for a saab .I'm a bimmer dude, but I just picked up a 97' 900se real cheap in good condition and after driving it around all day I must say it's a real thrill.I really want to mod and tune the hell out of it but I don't know where to start first.I'm not looking to dump a whole lot of cash either.I would like to know which mods are neccessary,HP being the main target.Any and all input will be great,I'm looking to put it all together with in a month or so.It'll be nice to crash a couple of my bimmer meets with a kickass saab, plus beating up on other cars with the 5er is getting old.Looking forward to your help. Thanks chris.
well ill b the first to say this but if you want a lot of hp out of it...its not goin b cheap:nono; ...but with a 3" dp (~$400) and exhaust (another $400) with intake, you'll be running pretty strong add an mbc as well for a little kick, but if you are really going to be getting power you need a tuned ecu that run around $700+++ and you will later prob read that suspension is a very key factor that is very strongly recomended on these cars....but i think you will b much more impresseed with ur saab then u ever were with the bimmer, much more class and originality points
compared to bimmer prices its pretty cheap, also If you look at the amount of net HP compared to money spent, you yeild much more HP per dollar then any bimmer will ever come close....
I'm good with the suspension and braking part, that's job one.Where can I get parts and info,I'm up to my eye balls in bimmer info i'm pretty much square one when it comes to saabs.I've dumped alot of unnessessary time and cash into my bimmers over the years learning by trial and error i'm not looking to repeat that.

rear anti roll bar
shocks and springs
maybe bigger calipers depending on what you goal is
mbc manual boost control (until you get an ecu)
intake modification
full exhaust
intercooler
larger turbo
better fuel injectors
and it just keeps going
i was close to getting a tricked out bimmer (over my saab) 1990 325ci but they wanted too much for it without a bumper
Try www.genuinesaab.com. Virtually everything you'll need for all the things mentioned above i.e. downpipe and suspension stuff. Upgraded intercoolers are there too, but apparently you can find a cheap $100 one on ebay that works just as well. Nick, the owner of Genuine Saab, also does ECUs there himself so if you head in that direction he can help you there but if not there's many others - that areas a bit debatable.
I'm no veteran to the Saab world myself, but that should get you started.
Thanks guyz for all the quick replies.I'll filter and digest this info and start work this weekend, they say the weather should be good.I'll stop by my parts guy and pickup some suspension stuff to start.Ill keep you guyz posted! Keep the info comming. Before and After pics comming soon!
Dont know what part of NY you are in, but there is a huge saab specific junkyard up north of Syracuse.
Also, this site and saablink.net has a pretty active classifieds with random parts being sold for good prices.
Plan on bringing the saab or the bmw to the carlisle import nationals in PA. Its late next month, we will all be there along with some vendors, and parts.
