Since I just did my 3" exhaust, I'm now looking into the next step - intercooler.
The local Saab guru at George's Imports tells me he has Viggen intercoolers for $200 so basically I'm just needing to know if it'd be fine to settle with this or would it be worth it to go all out with an aftermarket one. If so, what would be the best brand? I've been looking at the Forge on GS, but I've seen some others as well, so...what other options have worked well for everyone else? Thanks.
Oh, wow. That's good to know. But for the ICs on ebay, would even those be worth getting or should I opt for one with a name. It doesn't matter to me of the name, if i could pay $100 for something that'll work about just as well as something 4x as much, great. So...what would you suggest?
Something with a core size of 18-20 inches (24-26 inch total length) and no more than 8-9 inches tall and 3-3.5 inches thick is what you should look for.
Anything larger will likely need serious adapting...
As far as ebay intercoolers go, they are a great choice. My fellow DSMrs have taken them down to 10 second quarters, cooling insane size turbos. They are fine. Godspeed from ebay (GREAT parts) offers one that claims to have the lowest pressure drop in the industry, and I for one believe it!

Hmm...well the one I had posted above wasn't from Godspeed but I did see a bunch from them. I'm glad to hear that they work, but my reason for questioning it was for the size of it. I wasn't sure if that would be too long, since I was told 24-26 inches. I'll take a look at the Godspeed intercoolers again, though, thanks for the input.
If anyone else could help me out with the size of that one, however, I'd appreciate it.
The one you posted is very nice, I love the size. There is a shop called johnny race car that makes the "6" and "7" inch intercooler setups like that, and are very proven.
A Bigger FMIC (front mount intercooler) can be used, but it starts to get too big. On a t25, not much is needed. A t25 is a POS. Once you step into like a gt30r, then you need to move alot of air. Many people cut the bumper supports to make room for the FMIC. There is nothing wrong with that, and is a good way to fit a big FMIC.

Ok, thanks a lot. As of right now, I have no plans to swap out the turbo, but I don't know what would happen later on. For now, I was just wanting to keep the current turbo setup, throw on the intercooler, remap the ECU, and I'll be fine. In the future, if I do decide to look into bigger turbos, I'll see what happens then. Thanks again.
Ok, so I know this thread is old, but...
I'm still in the market for intercoolers and I've come across several on ebay that miss the needed size by an inch or so. I've been told that the absolute maximum overal length should not exceed 24-26 inches, but I keep finding ones that have a maximum length of 27".
I'm on a pretty strict budget [reasoning behind ebay search to begin with] so I'm trying to do my best, and if 27" overall length would work then that'd be great. The one I'm looking at is 21x6x2.5 with an overall size of 27x6x2.5. If 27" will fit without any mods required, and if no one speaks against it, I'll buy this. So please, help!

What you're looking at probably won't be much more effective that a Viggen IC. You want an intercooler that's taller instead of longer, so you should be looking at ones that are 8 or 9 inches in height. Forget about the 6-inch high ones.
You also want to look at 3 inch thick cores, and bar and plate construction.
Length is less important, but endtank configuration is critical. The combination of length and tank config will determine whether you route the IC through the stock position flanking the radiator, or if you want to route it behind the foglights...
I probably would pass on the ones you're considering.
The ETS one is way too expensive, IMHO, and you can definitely find something as good or better for much, much less.

Ok, so I could squeeze out an extra inch going up, but not out sideways..well I'll keep that in mind, as I did see some that were closer to those specs. Agreed, the ETS one is nice, but it is crazy expensive. I can't seem to find any with end tanks that come out instead of to the side so I think that'd be the main advantage the ETS has over most. But thanks. I'll continue my search.
28x8x3.5? I like the height and depth of this one, but since I haven't actually removed the bumper yet and examined how much leeway I have to play with, I'm still not real sure my options length wise. If this one is too long to fit without mod, what would I need to do to stuff those couple extra inches in there?
Sorry for all this guess and check I'm throwing out, I'm just ready for this next step and I want to be sure of what I'm doing. Thanks a bunch.

I'd been eyeing those...but I wasn't sure of the dimensions of any of them. Which 'type' or 'spec' did you have in mind, if any?
