check out genuinesaab.com, you need to first figure out what desired hp numbers your looking at and then decide what stage ECU to get...for say a stage 3 your looking at a 3" dp and at least a 2.5"complete exo, upgraded FMIC...possibly a new wastegate....personally i dont think a stage 1 or 2 ecu is worth the $550...so save up adn buy your hardware first then go with a ecu when you have everything done!
wastegate is the least of your worries right now, check out a full 3" exo from Nick, and then look into say a forge fmic, or the mp fmic...you can go with a viggen but i would go a little bit bigger just to do it...then look into a open air intake or a drop in filter and do a 3" duct mod...look into suspension as well, then you should be on your way to a upgraded wastegate and a ecu tune...
Seriosly, I have a healthy list of hardware (no softwar yet) and the only reason I upgraded my wastegate was cause I got a good deal on a used one from another member here.
What you NEED is intake and exhaust. Then maybe a manual boost controller, then some suspension and better brake pads at least.
yea, just a little hard being a full time student and working lol. got suspension at the ups store right now, they're just being strict and not letting me get the springs, ill tell you what brown cant do for you. many people have sugested to get the 3" dp so ill do that next and then the 2.5 exo then ecu. will a k&n filter (stock size) do the job well enough?
i myself want to upgrade the exhaust before I head to suspension, but I got a question about both.........
what all do I need to get a full exhaust..... I want to get 3 inch all the way , I suppose. Dont know the difference between 2.5 or 3.... But would a cat, exhaust, downpipe, and flex pipe be a full 3 inch exhaust??
Is JT too loud.. I figure I would go with JT to get performance exhaust issues out of the way.. By this summer, I will be looking at stage 3.....
I want to get the Eibach lowering springs..... I would also need new dampers, correct??? If my car was lowered 1.5 inches.... could I still put 17's on and have them clear?? what about 18s?
Brakes... I am working on new rotors and pads.... Should I look into new calipers or should they be fine with upgraded rotors and pads.... as for rotors should they be drilled, slotted, vented, what??
If you run a cat and a decent muffler, it won't be too loud. A complete 3" exhaust is from the turbo to the tail. Jak Stoll makes a decent 3" full exhaust, down pipe with a good high flow magnaflow cat, a resonator and a good high flowing magnaflow muffler with a good stainless tip. Jak and I did some testing and the bottom line was a 3" full exhaust had less knock than a 2.5" saab sport exhaust. It will allow you to run more boost with less restriction and less knock.
I always say let the motor breath first, larger 3" intake and 3" full exhaust or at least the 3" dp to start with and a high flow cat. Then get a larger more efficient ic. The viggen ones are cheap used, maybe 80-100 bucks, but that will only give you one to two gear pulls before heat soak. If you plan to go bigger than stage 3 or want to have the power longer than one to two pulls, get a larger ic like the one at genuine saab or the monster jak stoll sells.
Once you have the intake, exhaust, ic, you are ready for a tuned ecu or mbc, but the mbc is only good to 15.5psi or fuel cut. A good tuned ecu would be good to around 20-23psi and be a stage 3 for this hard ware...!
This would get you into the 270bhp range... Good Luck,
John
